Default Looking for date of my 686-4

I picked up a 686-4 tonight and curious as to how old it might be. Under the yoke it has CAU9*** 686-4 It has a 6" barrel.
On the right side of the gun I see 2 screws, but I'm thinking a 3rd screw is being covered by the Hogue Wood grips that are on it. The only S&W trade mark logo is on the left side under the cylinder release...nothing on the right as far as a logo. Does have the Made In USA info.

Would appreciate any info. Sorry I can't post a pic at this time.

Sure someone can run it down closer, but it looks like 93-97.

Prefix CAU is likely from mid-1996. The third sideplate screw is covered by just about every stock style, at the upper rear angle of the frame where it meets the top of the grip frame.

Ruger makes 1911s? I thought only S & W did that? . Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the replies...
Thought about changing my user name for this forum, but up to this point my favorite gun is my Ruger 1911 and I use that name on a couple of other forums.
This is my first S&W and it may well become my favorite. I'm sure it will be my favorite revolver...which is what I think of first when I hear S&W.
