Standard Catalog of Smith Wesson
Hello,
I have the Standard Catalog of Smith Wesson 4th edition in electronic form.
Would someone tell me the page number to determine the manufactured date for a specific Model 49 revolver?
Thank you.

The model description for the steel frame Bodyguard (Model 49) is on page 253. The serial number list for the J frames is on page 489. In combination, that will get you in the ball park, but keep in mind that the serial number will not tell you with any degree of certainty when your revolver left the factory.

I did not realize there was an electronic version. I may be that far behind times. Is it an AP or a downloadable version? How do I get it?

I have the 3rd on my Kindle and laptop, but it is more cumbersome to utilize than the book. I can find something in the book much faster.

Thank you. It turns out the electronic version has different page numbers. But I did find the table.
Would 11J514 be year 1983 ?

Nope. You have a "floating J" there. IIRC that's 1972-73 vintage.

Close. 1971-72.
The floating J serial numbers can be recognized because they have no more than 5 numeric digits plus the J, never six. (That is one of the few times you can use the word "never" with S&W.)
