Default 57 no dash 4"

New to me, don't see them that often, ugly and not crazy about magna porting, but price was right.

OK I shot it today with 2 mag loads and 2 special loads. I can say I am not happy. I don't like magna porting! it makes the sight filthy, the front sight insert came loose! The magna porting is obnoxious and the hoque grips look nice but not comfortable, 2 other pacs I tried were not comfortable, basically not happy with this purchase. I shoot much heavier loads out of my 4 5/8 NM BH with much less discomfort and blast. I sure w/o porting and descent grips it would have been a better shooting experience but just not happy. I should have held out for a 25-2.

Sorry to hear that. Porting/comps certainly do have their trade-off to the benefit.

I'd love to make you an offer on it but I'm just not in a position to do so unfortunately.

I also have a model 57 w/4" barrel, minus the Magna-Porting. I love the gun but the first (and only) time I shot it with some Speer 210g DCHP Handgun Hunting ammunition I thought whoah!! One cylinder full was enough!! Reloads with Trail Boss brought the love back though!

I own and shoot several S&W's chambered in .41 and can say that I prefer one without being ported......
I own a Freedom Arms Model 83 chambered in .454 Casull with an 8.5" barrel that is ported and on that particular firearm I like the porting. But we are talking about a very powerful round with a long barrel and used for hunting.

I am sure you can sell or trade out of your M57.......someone will love to have it!

Any magnum chambered revolver with full house loads is going to bark/bite.
I only shoot the hot stuff when sighting in for hunting or getting used to a load for self-defense purposes.

No sense putting your body or your gun through unnecessary abuse when you can load and shoot target loads comfortably.

I too have been handgun hunting for over 20 years. Mainly with rugers, I do all my own gunsmithing work & hand loading for them. 454 's are nice, for me with my hand loads in 44 & 45 colt I can take anything walking or crawling. But to each his own, some prefer 475 or 50 cal at 900 for deer!
The loads I shot were my hand loads 210 xtp with 16grs 2400 maybe 1050 fps, 2nd was 215 SWC w/6.2grs tight group, neither is "hot" especially in my ruger 4 5/8" but in this gun, the blast and the recoil felt over the top for the loads. The 2 41 special loads I used were better but I finally found a better set of N frame camo pacs last night to try, I love N frames but my hand size doesn't like SQ butts.
