Hi. I'm ew here. I'm looking at a .38 Chiefs Special Revolver. Serial No.: J229XXX. Can anyone point me to where I can get accurate info on manufacture/ship Date? Thanks in advance.
1973-74; prob 1974. The SCS&W has the info and you can call the S&W customer service folks and they will tell you the year. It doesn't mean that is when it shipped just when the s/n was used.
For example I had a "floating J" prefix which usually means 1972 and that is what customer service told me. Come to find out the gun shipped in 1974.
