inherited my moms 38 s&w
I have my moms 38, it is a model 32, not a 32-1 s/n starts R44. I think it is a terrier because of the 2 in. barrel. Kinda looking for the year and approx. value. Part of the bluing is messed up on one small part of the chamber wheel. from sitting in the box on one side for so long. I have 1/2 of the orig. box and the paper work that normally comes with it. And the cleaning rod. I also know it does not take 38 specials they have to be 38s&w ammo.
Any enlightens would be greatly appreciated.

From what you have provided it looks like the years of 1970 to 1973 if I am reading the book right.

The "chamber wheel" is called the cylinder, and has, usually, 5-6 chambers. Extreme examples range from 4-10 chambers, maybe more.
At least, you didn't call it the "drum" as some newbies have.

Welcome to the Forum, palcous.
Terriers are nice little guns to own! Yours being a family gun makes it all the more special.

It's a 32S&W (Terrier) NOT 38

What? The Terrier, by definition, is chambered for the .38 S&W cartridge. The Model 32 is the Terrier after 1957 (first shipped in 1958).
If the gun were chambered for the .32 S&W, it would be either a .32 HE (Model 30) or a .32 Regulation Police (Model 31).

This can't be right.
The Terrier was moved to the J frame format in 1961, and the model designation was changed to 32-1 at that time to indicate that it wasn't built on the I frame any more.
The R prefix serial numbers started in 1969, 8 years after the Terrier was switched to the J frame. Hence, with an R serial number, it should be a Model 32-1.

Jack is correct. If it is a 32-1, it is a .38S&W ...'should look like this...
Dropbox - 32-1 (Terrier)-comp.jpg
