Default 28-2 & 36 Police Gun Rescue

My local shop took these in from a widow. Her husband was a retired peace officer that had passed away. I believe these to be his Duty/off-duty guns. The price was too good to pass-up so I bought them both.
An "S" prefix 28-2 and a J prefix 36. The 28 came with Pachs., that I swapped for these old Targets & added the t-grip to the 36. $650 for both ($400 & $250).

You got the 28 cheap and the 36 for free. Go play the lottery you may be on a lucky streak.

Reminds me of my first duty gun a 6” model 28 and my first off duty gun a model 36 back in 1973. Nice rescue.

Congrats to the OP for a fantastic buy. Two great ones at a stellar price, which also says nice things about the shop owner -- he may not have given the widow much, but he didn't gouge his customer, either. He sure could've gotten more, ya'?

This thread made me think about a question a good friend asked me at the last gun show I attended (Rawlins, Wyo.) a few weeks ago. He stood ogling my Baby-to-late-'90s Chiefs, old 'n' new Centennials, postwar K-frames and the rest, then he asked, "Have you taught your daughter exactly what these are and their value?"

"Yes." I have a comprehensive list of what I paid, the ages of each one and what their potential value (updated periodically in an attempt to stay in tune with the market's ups and downs). Plus, we talk about the "collection" so she knows what's what and how to proceed in the future. She's not a revolver gal, but give her a look at an M-1 Garrand and she'll tell you all about it. I'm working on the revolver thing, and she's too level-headed to rush down to the pawn shop for a quick buck.

There will always be heirs who haven't been "educated," but my daughter won't be one.

Food for thought.

Bob

These came in as a "group" of guns. Not sure what the shop paid for the group.
The shop always seems to price about right. I've bought several guns from the manager over the years & know I can usually haggle the price down 5% to 15% percent.

I bought a mint, and I mean MINT, 19-2 4” barrel about 4 years ago. Gun had come in that morning from an old woman. Must have been her husbands and it looked like it sat in a sock drawer since 1967. Pinned and recessed. Original diamond target stocks numbered to gun. Just perfect. Owner was off and dopey son was working the counter. He said “nobody wants revolvers anymore”. Tag said $249! $263 out the door. He probably paid that widow $100. I fired 18 Rounds and cleaned it and put it away. It was just so nice and I didn’t want to mess it up.

I stupidly sold it because I just knew I wouldn’t shoot it. I tripled my money. I have forgotten what I spent that money on but I haven’t forgotten that revolver. I have other nice ones, but that was the one I would have liked to buy a nice presentation case for and one day give to my son.
