Identifying early 38 S&W SPL
I tried to capture the information requested:
Yoke: 3X75S (probably just an assembly #)
S/N R131xxx
38 S&W SPL (stamped on barrel)
Barrel approx. 1.857"
Fixed Sights
2 screws
Stainless
Any information would be helpful:
Year, model or name
Even possible current value range
Also is it a round butt?
I did find that on the Yoke, it does have stamped: MOD. 60
Thanks in advanced.
I hope I answered the questions correctly, I am also attaching an image.
Bob

Appears to be a model 60. In the yoke area does it not state MOD 60? Appears the hammer was either broken off and repaired or intentionally cut off. SWSC 4th says 1974-1977.

Upon further inspection, on the upper side of the Yoke it does show:
MOD. 60

You might have a third screw under the stock. Nice looking revolver.

Here is a picture with the grips off.
Show B13 and 3X753
Also, is it a Round or Square butt, if I wanted to get a pachmayr set for my larger hands?
Yes, it does appear that the hammer was modified/cut off.
Looks like it is easy to replace, but like $50
I will take apart and lubricate as recommended to help with the trigger pull, pretty tight right now.
With the hammer cut off it is very difficult to pull for single action.

Welcome! A .38 Chiefs Special Stainless, also called the model 60, from about late 1974 to early '75. If it is mechanically sound, a $450 gun or so due to the bobbed hammer spur.
