Help with a modified front sight.....
Gents, I finally picked up a used model 35 from my FFL, that I had won on GB a while back. The pics from the listing showed, what appeared to be red finger nail polish on the rear flat of the target front sight. When I started a cleaning it today and before I removed the polish, it appeared the front sight had been filed, so the rear flat of the sight had been canted the slightest bit rearwards, similar to the front sights on some of the Ruger Mk2/3 target pistols. The 35's front sight cant is barely noticeable, unless it's in your hands and under the polish you could barely make out what seemed to be a loss of bluing right as the red met the bluing. I removed the polish easily and was somewhat shocked to see a small copper "tab" had been affixed to the rear flat of the sight with what looks like silver solder. This "tab" has a slight taper to it and I think it was giving the rear sight the undercut look to it. Has anyone seen this modification before? I was wondering if this was a commonly found change on 60's era target sighted revolvers. It looks very well done and it doesn't seem like the sight was reshaped, filed or altered, other than having the tab added and then the polish covering it up. I haven't touched it, since removing the polish. Think I'll try shooting with the sight as it, before I make a decision on whether to keep it as is or remove it. Thanks for any help! Bill in MA

Sounds interesting. Can you post a pic or 2 of the sight for us to look at?

I will try. Took a few with my phone, when I discovered it. Was just searching the forum here on how to attach them to a thread. Stay tuned! - Bill

That's neat. I live around 120 miles or so from New Orleans, around New Iberia, LA.
BTW, attaching pics is pretty easy on the forums. When you open up the post reply, there should be a button below the reply to thread window in Additional Options called manage attachments. There is a button called Manage Attachments that will open up another window to attach a jpg or other type picture file. I generally resize the pics to 1024x768 or 1280x1024 to reduce them to a size that doesn't exceed the file size limits for the forum.

Mmmn, that is a pretty cool looking mod done to that front sight. I imagine they did it to make the front sight stand out better. I've never seen that done before; thanks for posting a pic up of it for us to view!

I've seen brass beads but never one quite like that. I'd say it was a period mod though.

Looks like it might be 10 or 14k gold.
I've seen it done a few times through the years.
Here is a K-38 with Gold attached.
