I found a Model 18-3 today!
I was really surprised to find this Model 18-3 at one of my local gun stores today. I've been looking for one of these for what seems like forever. The one or two examples I have come across in the past were priced completely out of my range.
This gun had some truly atrocious mother-of-pearl stocks on it that someone had whittled down to fit an extra-small size hand. The previous owner also got happy with one of those gold fill lettering kits from Brownell's; I'll address that at a later date.
Anyway, I stuck a newer set of target stocks on it, apologies if they're not age appropriate to the gun, they're what I had handy.
Based on the serial number, 6K2452# this gun shipped in 1974. Overall, it's in nice shape, with a little bit of blue wear at the muzzle on the left side. I ended up paying $700 out the door, and was glad to get it!

Nice looking Model 18!!
Some days, the 617 just seems too muzzle heavy,, so out comes the 18.
Did you get a whole three,, or a half three??
I only got a half three,,,
Slap some Ren Wax on it,,,

They'll show the S&W emblem on the right side...I'd bet you could do a straight across trade in the forum....

What the heck is a "double football?" I suppose you mean the stocks that seem to have a speedloader cut on both sides.
But keep in mind that in 1974, there wasn't any such thing. The speed loader relieved target stocks for the K frame didn't show up until about 1978.
This gun (if it came with target stocks) would have shipped with target stocks having the extractor relief (football) on the left side only. And yes, the right side stock panel would have partly covered the monogram, just like these do.
There is a good chance this .22 Combat Masterpiece came from the factory with walnut Magna stocks like those in SweetMK's picture.

As far a wheel guns go in .22 LR there is no better Rimfire Revolver made than a vintage M18 - Congrats! Some will argue that a M17 is better, but it's really the same gun - just with a 6" bbl. Personally I shoot the 4" better but YMMV.

I personally like the extra 2" of barrel and the sweet patridge front sight post.
Super accurate.
