Model 34-1 .22LR 2in Snubby Info Request
Hey, first post here...
I am helping my Great aunt sell her husband's gun collection and wondered what this one is and what it's worth? GunBroker has a widely varied selection for the uneducated...
Visible Hammer, Hand Ejector, 3 screw w pinned barrel.
Serial M1157XX.
CTG. 22LR.
2" Barrel.
Adjustable Rear Sight.
Any help is much appreciated!

Welcome!
It is a .22/32 Kit Gun Model 34-1 from about 1978. With box and papers and in that condition, I'd say your aunt should ask for something north of $650, maybe north of $700. I don't see the tool kit. Do you have it?

I don't see the tool kit. I'll look next time I'm there. How much would that add to the appeal?

A complete package including the sight adjustment tool will add to the collectability. Tool kits add 60 to 100 b7cks to the value in my experience. I am not a hard core collector, others may have better information. Nice gun!

Nice gun. I agree; around a $700 gun. But I don't think I've ever seen a .22 cal. Speedloader before.

Now that's a real nice package! I agree with the above that $700 would be a good price for this gun that is not often seen in the snub configuration. I don't know what your interest is in this nice gun is, but it seems like a great opportunity for you.

They've been around for a while. I have probably half a dozen of them in my junk. Almost never use them.

Cool.
Here is what you wrote in your opening post:
If you added an extra X at the end, the serial number would be M1157x. That would fit with a 1970 ship date. Did you give us an extra X?

For what it’s worth I sold a nickel 34-2, I think about four years for $600 just the gun and stocks. Used the money to buy a 617-2 and a couple hundred rounds of ammo. That was about 4 years ago. And there was some flaking in the back strap. The dealer snatched it up in a heartbeat. The prices on Smith’s are in a slump right now but I would still say $800+ depending on how you sell it.

Well, that is weird. The M prefix started in 1969, and it didn't get anywhere near six digits until the end of 1977. Yours definitely should be 1978 or later.
I'm wondering about two possibilities:
1. Could the date on the receipt actually be 1978, with the 8 looking like a zero? or,
2. Perhaps the receipt is actually for a different gun?

My 34-1 is SN130XXX looks pretty much the same gun.
Paid $700.00 a couple of years ago. With box and papers. No tools. I bought this to practice D/A snubby J frame shooting and I love it. Feels pretty much like my M60. With .22lr ammo it has a little less recoil but the same trigger feel.
I thought $700. was a fair price and still do.

I don't have a '78 price list handy, but in 1976, the MSRP was $120 with the blue finish and $130 for nickel.

Jack was right on the money. Got email from Smith Wesson today confirming the M115701 as 1978/1979 date of mfg. I bought this off his Aunt Sunday. I paid too much but what a sweet piece it is. I have never seen a 22 speed loader. Does not work like my 38 spcl loader this one you have to push one way to lock the rounds in and the other to release them in the cylinder. Would be nice to have the tools maybe on Ebay some time.

Sounds like the HKS brand. I have a dozen or two around here, in various calibers. The early examples did not have the plastic fingers at the handle end, the later type did. But both use metal tabs on the internal wheel that turns when you twist the knob. They work great, but like I stated earlier, I rarely use them with my .22 caliber revolvers.
Edit: I just noticed the picture in your Post #1. That is an HKS speed loader.

A very popular gun shop in my area had one just like it in about the same condition but had no box. It took about one month to sell at $650. I would say $700 for what you have.

I passed one up recently at $525.00+Tax... no box, no tools. It was an indecision thing on my part between 3 different guns. Big mistake on my part. It was gone the next day.

That is a nice package ,I personaly would love to find a shooter grade kit gun but that would be a great find for a lot of guys , I would say 700 bottom price user pays shipping ect the gun and extras are worth that if no bites at that price tell her to hold it as it is like gold maybe better as they will get more valuable .Just my 2 cents which is o ly worth 1 1/2 cents in today's money. My brother has my granddads that he always carried when we went fishing ,camping ect many many snakes have succumbed to that revolver and literally hundreds tin cans have been perforated by it so that particular 22/32 would be priceless just for the fun we had with it and the memories it brings ,thanks fo posting if you want to get a fair price for it may e you should post it here for sale ( I don't know if I am allowed to say that ) these guys love S&Ws obviously so so done here would probabaly offer a fair price.

Well here in California off roster guns come at a premium. I really wanted it so I think he took advantage of me I paid $900 for the package. I happen to have a new unopened took kit I have had for years its a 5 inch rod with brush and swab with screw driver. It is for 5 to 6 in barrels I think this gun came with 4 inch rod originally. it has never been used will try to trade for 4 inch rod at gun show.
