I just refinished these. Do you think they're too shiny? Perhaps buff them with 00 steel wool a bit??

My father bought these N Targets in around 1960. He had them on a 1919 M&P .38. (K Frame) Now they are where they belong.... on my 28 no dash from 1960. Bob

19-3 I bought 30ish years ago, when people were dumping them like they were steam powered. You could have your pick at a gun show from dozens of them..for about $275. I probably grabbed this one because of the butt cap it had, that I had never seen before, and the well streaked grain of wood. Some of the best looking stocks I have ever seen have been factory S&W.

One of my favorites, so much it is my new avatar.

I just won another set of Combat Magnums on a large auction site earlier today that will be going on a .41 Magnum.

The smooth Target Stocks for J frames are often nicely figured Goncalo Alves and sell for a fraction of what similarly figured K and N frame stocks sell for. Here are a couple of examples that are quite attractive.

Thanks to all for another thread of PURE eye candies...I have no pics to share....but the three S&Ws I have from the mid 70s...M29..M19...M17...all blued, all sixers, all P&R, TT,TG,TH,TS, wear the stocks many have displayed. I semiretired the "Blues Brothers"....having a M629, M686, M617..taking up the tasks of shooting.
We all value our treasured Smiths......and as a side note....how any threads carry the pride of "Plastic Fantastics"....

Great post, I love searching and finding a beautiful set of original factory grips. Nothing like a nice set of wood !!! I have noticed that it seems the N frames always seem to have a real nice set on them. I have over time found some nice grips but they will set you back a few bucks.

I was in my LGS a year or so ago, I stumbled on this Model 19 ND .. She was shot and loved, lil beat up, but the grips were stunning and I took her home, I couldn't leave her there !!

Here are some of mine. The first picture is of some of my presentation stocks. They are in one of the wood cases that was used in the factory to transport stocks from the Wood Room to Final Fitting. It was given to me by a former employee as a joke. I turned it into a coffee table.

I like to buy'm off of ebay when I can get them at a great price. Not usually easy but deals will pop up. As long as the checkering is still sharp, and they're not refinished, I'll give them a look. Received this pair here yesterday. $81 on ebay. A few days of TLC and they'll likely go on a '75 28-2 that's in 96% or so. The nice fitting magna's on it aren't original.

Wipe em down with a cleaning rag - maybe slightly damp if needed. Then the “magic” part is applying a coat or two of Renaissance Wax. Apply lightly with your finger, wait a couple minutes then wipe down with a micro fiber cloth. Protects and gives them a nice satin finish.

I've posted these many times and though they aren't original anymore, they show the handiwork of forum member Gatorbaiter who fixed them up for me. I was told here these butchered four dollar grips are, or were cokes. They looked like those cut down K frames I got at the same time minus all the chips. They are now perfect compact mini cokes on this short 27-2.

Don, when I bought these in '98 at SHOT Show from the manufacturer (SADDLEWORTH) they were also offering them in silver... solid silver... $$$. These solid brass ones were even higher $ than what I wanted to spend at the time. -Bill

...the condition of the matching number stocks on my 1905 Target (circa 1925)...was one of the points that drew me to buy it...

Default A couple of bairgain N frame smooth targets

I don’t know what kind of wood these are. I found one set (the lighter one) at a tent sale at my LGS. They were in a big Tupperware tote, marked $25. The darker stocks were on a pawn shop, shooter-.grade 4” Model 66, that I picked up for $400. Both sets of stocks really fit my hand, and they make my 29-10 look like a a 29-2 or -3 (except for that lock thingy).

Smith & Wesson didn't make them, they were made by SADDLEWORTH.

Wyatt Burp;
I would like to complement you, and Gatorbaiter, on rescuing those "butchered Cokes", from the scrap box, and turning them into a great looking, and unique pair of grips. You can both, take pride in them. They add more beauty, to the, all ready beautiful 27-2. You are tempting me to create a shortened pair of grips like them, as I don't like grips that are too long, and have shortened grips to suit my taste, also. Thanks for sharing them with us.

K-frame presentation grips with "football" cut-out Mid-60s to 1980???? ...........IIRC saw some on the Texas Ranger commemorative.

i have several pair of K-frame targets that I've shortened (in the 80s) by 3/8"; I like the proportions butt to grip better..... also loses a lot of unnecessary balk IMHO!

Mini-Cokes. Not original, however.

Really pumped as I just scored these beautiful K targets off EBay at what I consider a great price! Several potential landing spots for them .....
