Default Help with identification

Hi all, I need help identifying a S&W revolver. I believe it to be a model 10 however it is not marked with a model #. I am not sure this is even the right part of the forum for it so I am guessing here. The serial number is on the bottom of the square gripped frame. It is 310XXX. It looks to be pinned and recessed. Thank you for any help you can provide!

...is there a letter before the serial number?...looks too new for that serial number by itself...

Default Serial number

hi,

There is a letter C to the far left on the frame. Serial is to the right of that. i did not think it was part of the serial number but that you asked i'm guessing it is lol.

...the C is definitely part of the serial number...someone will be along to give you a close estimate...I could give you a closer estimate with a right side view of the revolver...

...if there is no model number on the vertical part of the frame with the cylinder open...then it is from between 1948 and 1957...if there is a model number there...then it would be from between 1957 and 1967...

...looking further into the serial number makes my best estimate around 1954-1955 and thus no model number...it would be a pre-model 10...

...nice looking revolver...welcome to the forum...

Nice gun Nevada. Pre-10 snubbies are hard to find, and nickel is pretty darn scarce.

The serial number suggests a 1954 production date, but 2" .38 M & P revolvers were not very fast sellers in the 1950s and the ship (sales) date may have been far away from the time it was built. A letter of authenticity will give you this information if you are interested:

Even without seeing the photos (thanks Photobucket ) I can tell you it does have a pinned barrel but not a recessed cylinder, as only rimfire and Magnum revolvers had this feature. Enjoy!
