Howdy
Really trying to cool it these last few months, having been on almost a 2-year buying binge. After having hand therapy for surgery this morning, I
forced myself to visit a pawn shop where some nice pieces were found during the last 2 years.
This guy always has something "hiding" in the back that is not in his show case. He produced a nice 4" 686 and this 65-1.
Since I already have a nice 4" 686 and a 65-5 in 3", I zeroed in on the 4" 65-1 when I saw that it was early production and recessed chambers.
When I asked him to price it, he came back 5 minutes later with: "$450 out the door." I made a 15 minute round trip to my bank!!!
Serial is: D80162x which should place it about late 1975.
*NOTE in first photo there is a scratch with what appears to be a small corrosion spot next to the cylinder release.
**NOTE that it has a really nice set of rounded magnas.
Do I "need it?" Heck no............but one only lives once and I did not have a model 65 in 4-inch. AND........good older Smiths are really drying up around here. I figure all are better investments than passbook savings.
I also picked up a really clean Remington 550-1 with scope grooves and shell deflector.........and added it to the 5 other ones in the stash.
Life now has a lot of aches and pains, but it is still good!
Y'all take care, Bo
