Default Model 57 value

A friend offered to sell me his model 57. It is an "S" prefix serial number and as close to new condition as possible. Barely a cylinder turn line. Just the revolver, nothing else. What is a real world fair price?

I see you are also a resident of CA. A 4" S prefix early Model 57 is a desirable revolver. If I were selling I wouldn't take less than $1200, friend or not. If I found one like that at a gun show for $800 I would be on it before the next guy came along with a pocket full of money and an appreciation for S prefix N frames.

Well I am not in California, but up here in spudland, Idaho that gun would be over the $1K line and rightfully so. I concur that $1,200.00 would be a fair price for an S prefix. Were it a later gun it would still fetch around $1K.

The first year 57s came with cokes, at least some of them did. Those are great diamond targets on that one and probably came on it but have you checked the serial number for year of manufacture? I have a six inch first year gun (1964; S282XXX) with cokes but no box/papers and I wouldn't take much less than $1500 if I was selling it. I would think your's should be in the $1200+ range. And for whatever its worth, there is currently a 57 S sn four inch on the "for sale" side of the forum asking $2000. Good luck.
