Default 28-2 fair trade?

I have a really nice Model 28-2 4" that was my Dads' in probably 99% condition that I will keep forever.

I also have a "spare" Model 28-2 with a 4" barrel and an S serial number dating it to 1965. It is in pretty decent shape with a turn line, a few blemishes in the blue.

I have read on the forum that the 4" is more desirable than a 6" (although I'm one of those people that likes the longer barrels).

I have been thinking of posting a WTT ad here. Is a 4" barrel one THAT much more desirable than a 6" that I should look for something other than an even-up swap with somebody?

Thanks all. Jim

As long as you’re both happy, totally fair. A four for a six that is.

It seems that the 4" is more desirable so a price difference of $100 to $200 might be negotiable. It might be better to buy a 6" which you like and then sell your 4". Condition is very subjective.

The S Serial numbers also seem to be slightly more desirable, too.

To me, maybe only me, the S sn is worth as much "premium" as the shorter barrel length; do you have original stocks; diamond magnas? Overpaid for one much as you describe at the last gun show I attended ($600). Maybe you can get a little to "boot" against a 28-2 six inch with N sn but probably not a whole lot. Given equal condition you might try for $100 or so. Suspect there are quite a few folks here who would be willing to discuss a trade with you. Good luck.

Thanks all. I have a little more into this one than I'd like. I got it for $475 with Pachs on it. Paid $125 for a nice set of correct magnas with very close serial number - a nice fit.

I always have a hard time estimating condition. Here are some pictures.

Nice. I carried one on duty for many years. Wish I had something to trade you for it, but I can’t seem to part with anything lately

Looks nice, and begs the question, "What kind of trade are you hoping to get?"

I don't want to get into specifics - I will do that in the "sell" part of the forum. I really am interested in a 6" versus the 4". I just didn't want to make a dumb trade if they aren't equivalent.
