Default Thailand Combat Grips On A Model 66-1 (Pics Added)

I received a pair of Thailand Rosewood "K" frame square butt combat grips yesterday (took 9 days to get here) I had read about, and decided to buy to see if the quality and fit were there. I was presently surprised when they arrived. They are pictured on a 6 1/8" Model 66-1 (MFG 1978) along with a factory pair I had purchased from a fellow S&W Forum member recently for comparison. Aside/except for the S&W medallions being a little bigger and shinier the grips are almost the same. They fit perfectly, and for $85 vs the $150 plus one might pay for factory new combat grips, on strictly a shooting perspective, these are not bad.

But I've a set of thailand combats on my RB 66-3 2.5". Dark, medium chocolate colored, satin finish. Fit my hand perfectly. If they start making grips for RB N frames I'll buy a couple pair!

Those are exactly like the ones I ordered from Thailand on March first. It's been 6 weeks and I haven't gotten mine yet. Yours look really nice.

I’ve now bought 3 sets of grips from jaruwan and they’ve been first rate. I noticed recently he didn’t have anything for sale on eBay, maybe he’s on vacation.

I spoke too soon, he’s back up on eBay so you’ll get your grips pretty soon I’ll bet.

Sorry for the late response. I've been away from my computer.
Discovery at me is the name of the grip seller. I found them when searching eBay under S&W "K" Grips awhile back.

I have searched all over ebay and cannot find anything with the Discovery at me name. Is that the exact spelling?

I'd appreciate seeing both sides with only one grip panel on(the one with no grip on)?

Thanks Model39. You have to use underlines instead of spaces. That is, use "Discovery_at_me".

I have a couple of pairs (N and K) Jaruwan Thai grips I bought off eBay about 4 years ago. One set on a M29, the other on a M14. They are surprisingly nice and fit perfectly, but the price seems to have gone up a lot. I think mine were somewhat less than $40 each at the time.

I got my grips in from Jaruwan.p and they fit very nice. The finish on them was a very dull satin and it was hard to see any grain. So I covered them with two coats of tung oil. I like them. I feel the shipping was slow, as it took 51 days from the time they got my money until I received them.

Here is a set from the same vendor on my 325 TR (N frame Round Butt). Fits pretty good.

I have bought 9 pair of grips from Discovery_at_me. They are all K and N frame combats. They all fit very well. I'm a shooter who appreciates the feel of the factory combats but does not have the $250 plus per pair that they bring around here. These have exceeded my expectations.

I think I'm going to have to break down and order a set. I have a stupid question. I can only imagine that gun control restrictions are pretty severe in Thailand? How does he get examples from which to design to specs so that these grips fit as well as they do? I would have expected them to have all sorts of fitting issues but no one has reported any.

What are these medallions made of? Plastic? Brass? Other?
Are the meds "true knock-offs" of the S&W med, or something close?

I posted here years ago about the rosewood grips from Thailand. The woodgrain is awesome. I have many sets for my n frame.

Rosewood has a unique grain that changes from a red, to a orange, to a brown to a gray. I took my Thai rosewood grips and steelwool 0000 them lightly to reviel the multiple woodgrain colors I need to post pics.

Default Grip Medallion Material

The Medallions are made of some kind of metal, and are exact copies/looks of factory medallions. They are a bit larger and have a more silver finish look to them. When I first saw the grips for sale, I had my doubts, but was very pleasantly surprised when I received them. I've been checking on the company that makes them, but have not seen anymore for sale lately. I would definitely buy more should some others come up for sale. To answer the question about how they fit so well, I'm sure they have metal gun/gun frame copies similar to what holster makers use to fit their grips to the respective grip frame sizes.

I purchased a pair for a M63 and they arrived in three weeks from this vendor. They were beautiful in both fit and finish. I was going to buy a pair for a .357 until I noticed what I also see on your grips. In a apparent move to conserve material they will sometime remove the stock at the bottom to much leaving a to minimal amount of stock. I may be over apprehensive but that kept me from going forward. I did notice if you go to the "Jarwan" site you can pick out the specific pair of grips and don't have to guess what pair they will randomly choose for you, I like that option and think I will give them a 2nd shot. The 1st pair I purchased I received a email from their production dept. noting that due to a holiday, and they have many my grips would ship out in 4 days instead of 2 which I appreciated. This pair was a random selection, thus cheaper, I believe $38.

Finally got the time to add pictures of the frame fitting. These are really nice fitting. There is no shake or slippage when on the gun, and they fit the back strap perfectly.

Try
discovery_at_me

I have a few pair N SB combats and K RB combats.

Something to watch for is the fitment. The seller shows pictures of the actual for sale grip on a gun frame. Watch for the fitment around the horn, some are short, some are too long and some are just right .

Not sure if Jaruwan.p and discovery_at_me are the same, but discovery_at_me grips are almost exact copies of the factory grips save the emblems. The ones I've seen from Jaruwan.p do not have the open back strap.
