Default S&W Model 25-5 Black Beauty

Folks, I just received a S&W Model 25-5 that is an absolute beauty. I bought this N-frame vintage revolver off of GunBroker for $1350. I know that's not a bargain, but I wanted this handgun in 45 Colt and the three T's. It was advertised as in "mint" condition and with the exception of a faint cylinder turn line, the beauty hasn't a flaw. Looks brand new. Love the grip stocks. The wood is gorgeous. I am pleased and I'm looking forward to taking her to the range to see how she shoots. Yes, the cylinder chambers are the larger size. Action is excellent. Ain't she a black beauty?

Thanks for looking at my black beauty! I'm just a little bit proud.

God bless,
Birdgun

Very nice looking gun! I always have my eye open for something in 45 long colt also unfortunately anything halfway decent is usually above a grand. You did not overpay you just bought it a little early. yours will be worth more than you paid in no time. Get out and shoot that Beauty and give us a range report.

Yes. And I’ve had and shot a twin to your 25-5 since the late 1980s. They are a joy to shoot.

Very nice. Please let us know how it does at the range; I'm betting even with oversize throats it will be just fine.

I have a bad case of grip envy. I love the dark ones like yours, and it seems all I have ever found are the pale washed out looking ones.

I have an 8 3/8" M25-5 and I wish my stocks looked like yours. I have mine in a M29 Presentation case. Bought it a few years back for $750 shipped. It is very accurate and holds most shots in the black at 25 yards. It does have the pinned bbl. Big Larry

I agree, it's a thing of beauty! From end to end! Congratulations! I'm going to have one of those before the year is up. (The Good Lord willing) In fact, I want one just like that one!

Thanks all for your comments. They are much appreciated.

I also got with the revolver a presentation case, paperwork, and all tools. I can't tell if any is original to the gun. The inside of the case is nothing to look at. All the blue felt is gone and just the plastic mold left - UGLY. I think I'm going to remove everything and just put in some foam. But, I did take some pictures of the case with the 25-5 laying on top.

Thanks for looking at my 25-5 and case.

God bless,

Let me know if you need any larger size .45 bullets. I cast them large just for that purpose.

25-5 Range Report:

This morning I took my newly acquired S&W 25-5 and my tried & true 625-9, both in 45 Colt, to the range this morning. The 625-9 was brought along for comparison. I shot the 25-5 as well, if not a little better, than the 625-9 "Mountain Gun."

I was shooting my reloads. 200 grain LRNFP bullets (.452), pushed by 5.4 gr of Clays powder, lit off with Federal small pistol primers.

25-5 report
- Started supported single-action at 10 yards. 12 rounds in one ragged hole.
- Standing double-handed unsupported single-action at 10 yards. All in 3-inch circle.
- Standing double-handed unsupported single-action at 20 yards. All in 4-inch circle.
- Standing double-handed unsupported rapid double-action at 7 yards. All in 6-inch circle.

Over 100 rounds launched out of my S&W 25-5. Due to my error, there were a few fliers.

Obviously, I'm no expert revolver marksman and certainly not a long range handgunner. But, the results are pretty good for my ability and I did as well or better as I do with my other S&W revolvers.

I'm very happy with my newly acquired 25-5 "Black Beauty." She is a beauty!!

Thanks for reading my range report.

God bless,
Birdgun

Great guns. I've had this one over 30 years. It shoots just fine. I have no idea about the throat size and it looks like you don't need to worry either.

Would have liked that one two, maybe three time if the mods allowed.
Congratulations to you!
