Need Help Identifying this Gun
Hello,
Can anyone help me identify the history on this 44 Magnum? It says MOD 29-2 and has a Serial Number of N68XXX.

Welcome to the forum.
Very nice 29
It would have shipped from the factory in the 1968-1972 time frame.
It has a very nice set of what looks like Rosewood stocks on it also.
I do have a quick question is that a 6 or 6 1/2" barrel ?
A barrel is measured from the cylinder face to barrel tip.

Welcome to the forum.
You have a model 29-2, 44 magnum that shipped from S&W sometime between 1969 and 1972. If I had to guess from that serial number I would say 1971.
What's the story on the revolver? Where did you get it? How long you had it? Etc.

A quick answer. 
It's a 6 1/2. It's clear in the OP picture.

I ran across it at at the Knobb Creek Machine Gun Shoot yesterday in West Point, Ky which is basically where Fort Knox is. What would you say this gun is worth? It looks like someone bought it way back then and didn't fire it very much. It does not have a case or anything else with it.

The 6 1/2" barrel and Rosewood stocks are favorable to it's value IMHO. The yellow front sight is interesting also.
1,000 plus or minus some.

Maybe it's just the lighting, but perhaps it was hard chromed with a stainless cylinder release? Nickel has more of a soft yellow tint.

It looks nickel to me. The c. 1970 time frame would have to be 6.5" barrel and it looks that length to me.
