Default DID the CM/M15 ever come from the factory with a heavy barrel?

I love the M10 heavy barrel, but prefer the adjustable sights. I can't find a heavy barrel M15 in searches. Did it exist? Anyone have pics if so?

I don’t believe it did. But I’ve seen heavy barrel model 67’s.

Yes, depending on your definition of "heavy". And model 15.

The model 15-5 through -7 had an untapered barrel and wide rib, like a model 14. There was a pause in model 14 production sometime in their time frame and a 6" model 15 was made that was for all intents and purposes a model 14, just not named as such.

If you seek a wider ("bull barrel") model 10 with adjustable sights, look for a mid-1960s era model 14-2 from Dayton Outdoor Sports (or Gun Headquarters depending on who you ask). Uncommon and somewhat pricey when you find one. Happy hunting!

Ohsheepdog,

A classic Model 15 is like a Greyhound but
what you really want is a Bulldog. Get a
Model 19.

I have never seen a 67 with a heavy barrel.

I much prefer the look of the tapering barrel. I like the profile of the 27 over the 57 & 29 because of the barrel contour. But that's me.

I'm no expert, but I think I read that some 4" HB CMs were made on special order for some law enforcement agencies. Not sure if they were marked as 15s but that's what they essentially were. Or maybe they were actually 4" M14s? Hell, I dunno.

I think the bottom line is that a heavy barrel CM is not common and if you want one it will take some searching and pocket full of cash if you find one.

Art Doc,

The "heavy" or non tapering barrel on
Model 67s started in 1982 when pinned
barrels ended and triggers went from
ridged to smooth.

Would this be a 67-1?

There were heavy barrel Masterpieces made in the early 50s and possibly earlier than that. I picked one up a while back that was (possibly) cut down to 4". The barrel is about the same width as the heavy-barrel 10s and 13s.

In addition to the 6" Model 15-5, -6 and -7 S&W also made a wide rib version in 4" . . . and there were also small batches of 4" Model 14s made in addition to the "Dayton" guns that Murphydog mentioned.

Below is a comparison of the traditional 4" Model 14 barrel profile (on left) and the 4" bull barrel Model 14s made for Dayton Gun Hq (on right).

Good luck in your search . . . they are out there,

Russ

Mine is not a Dayton gun, but it has the same barrel profile. It was made in 1954. I posted photos in a thread a while back.
4-inch .38 Masterpiece

Cool gun in the link, but it has the K-38 Masterpiece/model 14 contour barrel and rib. See linde's photos above for the Dayton barrel appearance...

Yep, never mind. It's a straight-walled barrel, no taper. Best I can do on short notice!
