Default Just Brought Home

I've been looking for about a year, and finally found a 15-2, serial number K645332, worth bringing home. I found it on GB and paid $450 for it. It's in excellent shape. I don't know what year it is, but it hasn't been fired much. Everything is tight as a newborn. Before & after:

1965

Were the Magnas numbered to the gun?

Personally, I'd use them and insert a Tyler T.
But that's just me.

What would really been nice if it had TT,TH,
then it would be "Air Force-ish."

Thank you. No, they have the number 626636 stamped on them.

LOL - that would be cool. I was Air Force'ish.

I have large hands, and the Magnas are much too small for me.

K605878 – K658986....1965 manufacture
Yours probably shipped around the end of 1965. Around $500 is typical for these.

i shoot my 15-3 with PC Magnas. I'd like to use a t-grip and have tried it but with a t-grip the knuckle of my middle finger is right against the back of the triggerguard....so i use the PC Magnas. Nice gun BTW

While I suggested the Tyler T, true enough that they
tend to jam the middle finger up against the trigger
guard.

Zoner, perhaps you and I should consider having
our fingers surgically changed to avoid the trigger
guard rap.

Plus one for the PC Magnas. Have them on all my Combat Masterpieces. They just fit the meaty part of my hand really well. Inherited a T-grip on an old M&P and tried it, but didn’t like it. Good thing, because I think they’re as ugly as sin. Good shootin’,

03std, congratulations on a great little gun! Last June I bought a pristine 15-4 off GB for about the same price as yours. After shooting it, my wife claimed it as her gun and had me put faux pearl magna grips on it for her. She wanted it to look more feminine.

S&W Model 15-4 "Combat Masterpiece" in 38 Special

Thanks for looking at my wife's Combat Masterpiece.

God bless,
Birdgun

A week or more ago on this forum,
I posted that Model 15s are garbage.

So, in keeping with my original post,
please do not buy any more. Let the
rest of them gather dust in the back
of display cases or on Gunbroker.

Your acquisitions have done nothing
but drive up prices on other Model 15s
out there which leads the uninformed
that they are worth buying.

They are not!

UncleEd, we are doing this just so you can't cheat uninformed little old widows out of their husband's Combat Masterpieces.

Just thinking about the little old ladies out there.

I’m with Uncle Ed. Those three-digit stainless steel ones with the little built-in lock thingie are so much better. Buy some more of those and let the very old, outdated and clearly inferior Model 15s fade into history. Forget they even exist. You’re getting sleepy, very sleepy . . .

Thanks, guys. I haven't gotten it to the range yet - hopefully tomorrow. I am very happy with this one. I stripped it down and doubt it's had 50 rounds fired through it, if that. Speaking of wives, this is the first one I've brought home that mine has taken a shine to. She's definitely a revolver gal. She even likes the new grips. I'm going to have to find a different place to hide this one.

Again, my wife claimed the Combat Masterpiece and then asked me to put faux pearl grip stocks on it so it would look more feminine. I've kept the original stocks along with its paperwork in the blue box it came in.

S&W 15-4 "Combat Magnum" in 38 Special with Altamont faux pearl stocks.

Finally made it to the range yesterday. I took the 15-2 and my Remington R1 1911. I shot about 250 rounds between the two, 125 gr JHP in the 15-2 and 230 gr FMJ in the R1. The 15-2 fired like a brand new weapon. I can't believe how tight everything is, given its age. One thing I took away from yesterday is that I definitely need glasses. Target was 7 yards out and something of a blur. The guns definitely fell in my blur zone. The target was also sitting in something of a shadow which made seeing where I was hitting a bit difficult. Still, not bad for an old blind guy.

From one blind guy to another. Get some cheap glasses that let you focus on the gunsights (+1 readers work for me). Dry fire the heck out of it using snap caps, concentrating on maintaining sight alignment. Then go back to the range and shoot 300-400 rounds of WC at center mass, using what you’ve learned. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you instinctively zero in. As you know, after that it’s all about practice and muscle memory. Heck, I’m sure you already know all of that . Anyway, good shootin’,

Actually, I don't use sights. Haven't since 1978. I was at an indoor range using mandatory safety glasses. They've never been an issue in the past, but my eyesight has clearly changed. I use reading glasses for reading, though. The guy I went shooting with has offered to buy me binoculars, though.
