Is there anyone here familiar with the Baltimore City PD Police revolvers? I've found reference online that they carried the 4" HB Model 10. I picked up a revolver at a gunshow today that I THINK might be a former Baltimore PD pistol. It's not a Model 10 but a 4" 65-2. On the left side under the cylinder it is stamped BCPD. Did Baltimore stamp their revolvers there?

I got home too late to take pics. It's in decent shape, lots of light scratches on the stainless, it was definitely carried and used. It is pinned and recessed 7D Serial Number block so 1981 manufacture.

Other reason I haven't taken pics yet is it has some uggly Herrets on it, need to find me some K frame square butt service stocks for it.

I never saw a M-65 marked that way but did see the previous guns(38Sp) marked with BCPD that way. I worked for BCFD and we had the boys in blue in the station all the time. We had a hijacking at the airport and a cop friend tried to shoot the tires out on the plane and the 38 just couldn't get 'er done. He did carry the bomb off the plane though. Shortly after they went to 357s. That cop ended up transferring to the Fire Dept. I never let him forget he probably missed those tires though...

While Baltimore is referred to locally as "Baltimore City", the police department for all of my adult life has been referred to as the "Baltimore Police Department" and as far as I know, their firearms were marked with "BPD" and not "BCPD". I do clearly recall seeing more than my share of HB Model 10s well into the 1990s when I lived in the city and knew a lot of police officers when I worked in a pawn shop.

BCPD might be the Baltimore COUNTY police, which if you are not from the area, is a different agency altogether. Baltimore County surrounds Baltimore (city), but is its own entity. Apologies if you are from the area and already knew this.

The Baltimore County could be right. It has been a long time since I saw the Baltimore city guns. (1974). And I do have CRS LOL

Nope I'm way down in Texas. I could tell from my online perusing that the two agencies existed but of course don't know how their firearms might be identified. I'll probably send off for a letter on this one to document where it was issued. I'm sort of enjoying getting a few PD documented pistols in the collection.

Well my luck with the S&W letters continues. I submitted this revolver for a letter obviously hoping it lettered to a police agency...Ugggh..."was shipped from our factory on April 19, 1982 and delivered to Martial Arms Inc, New Orleans LA. It appears as if this revolver could have originally manufactured for shipment to the Boston Police Department as numerous revolvers in this serial range were shipped to Boston Police. However, it was either and over run or accidently packaged for commercial sales."

WTH... Here's hoping I have better luck with a nice 10-8 I'm picking up tomorrow that is FWPD marked. At least I know it wasn't shipped to Wisconsin or something since it was purchased in Fort Worth...grrr..

Old thread, but still.....Baltimore Police Heavy Barrel 10's were marked with Baltimore Police on the backstrap. When the dept went for Glocks, members who had a 10 could buy them with agreement not to sell. Still looking for someone who'll violate that agreement!

There are approximately 231 cities in the U.S. that start with "B", then there are an additional 3,143 counties and county-equivalents, unknown how many start with "B", buy I would bet there are a bunch. There are probably quite a few locations that could use the abbreviation BCPD except for the counties that have a sheriffs department and would be BCSO or BCSD.

This gives you a place to start looking.

I also bought my agency gun when they switched to other semi's and promised "wink wink" not to sell it or and if I no longer wanted it, I had to give it back to them.

BTW... nice find Earl, a few years ago. Curios what agency it turned out to be.

Kinda off topic but back in the '70s, Anne Arundel County Police, just south of "Balmer", carried 6" Colt Official Police .38s.
