29-2 7 1/2 inch nickel value question
I have a chance to purchase nickel 29-2 with an 8 3/8 inch barrel. Some of the nickel is eroded on the cylinder. SN is N437xxx. No box. Grips are Pachmayr. Overall condition suggests pistol has been well used. The std catalog says barrel length and nickel finish are value adds, but lack of original grips, no box, and extent of usage is of concern. Your thoughts on value will be appreciated. Thank you.

It looks to me to be an 8 3/8" barrel rather than a 7.5", but it may just be the way I'm seeing the picture. You might try measuring from end of barrel to the cylinder face to double check.

You're correct. It is 8 3/8. I had measured to the front to the frame.

condition looks actually better than you are describing on the pic. maybe just lead deposit on cylinder front? Any end shake or wear on the ratchet or flame cutting? I can only answer subjectively. I like 8 3/8 barrels but they are a bit less popular in the market, plus I love 29s. For me owning this I would be head over heels at $500, 600. For $700 I would look closer, for $800 it needs to be minty with the rubbers on it. Anything beyond that I'd leave it. Maybe too tough of a price expectation but that's just me as a buyer.

Little or no flame cutting. A bit of end shake but not enough to be of concern. Sellers asking price is $900.

Around here that gun is priced about right. Maybe a little less but not much. That is West coast/AZ area. From what I have seen posted, Midwest/ East coast area you can get N frames free with a haircut.

Just for your information to compare. Last year I bought a 29-3 not pinned and recessed of course ,with same length barrel in similar (maybe slightly better than yours) condition but blued not nickel ,original target stocks and target everything with box and tools for $800 here in Florida. So that is the price I would shoot for if I was you. Mine had a $1000 price tag on it and my $800 offer was taken.

Around here, -3's do not get the money -2's do. They are usually a couple hundred cheaper.

Welcome to the FORUM! I personally don't care for 8,3/8" barrels. Have only ever had 1. Everyone is different. Let us know how you make out. Bob
