Talking Sets of Smiths??

I have been wanting to start a thread for some time now. Does anyone have pictures of a set of Smiths like the picture km going to put at the bottom?

Another example:
All blued snubs
Mod. 19
Mod. 10
Mod. 36
Mod. 49
Mod. 40

Or an all nickel set, or both. Something along those lines and preferably snubs, but feel free to post other sets too.

Another example is say a nickel Mod. 36, a blued Mod. 36 and a Mod. 60, all same lengths or so on.

Pease share. My example picture (which is unfortunately not my yet) is a great example. All this guy needs is a 649 and it's a perfect set! I really want to see older sets, but new ones too will work like my picture (again, not my set) of 12 revolvers.

These are some good examples. Go ahead and share your pairs.

You said a few "older" ones, this is a set of .32's, the top 3 are .32 RF and the bottom two are .32 CF. They range in age from 1858 to 1887.

This set is K Frame .38 Snub Nose, 3 screw, 4 screw and 5 screw. Dating between Apr 1952 and Dec 1967.

WOW!! VERY NICE!! I didn't expect to get a set from the 1800's! That's really cool. I like the K frame set as well. I like the 3, 4 and 5 screw set. That's exactly the kind of stuff I'm looking for. Thanks for sharing!!

I couldn’t quite figure out the rules.......I didn’t know you if wanted pairs by model or by some other variable like the Lew Hortons that share caliber, .44 special or the .41 mags in model 57 and 58. Oh well those are my pairs. I do have some Colts in pairs......lol

WOW! Are those J or K frame? They look like J's but have pretty long barrels for that size. That's nice! Thanks for sharing.

Any kind of set, like all one finish but different guns, all the same model with the same OR both finishes and/or stainless ones. Lee horton ones, snubs or long barrel, just some kind of a set that has SOMETHING in common. Like the one guy had the 3, 4 and 5 screw set of the same gun, same finish. Stuff like that. Can be pairs too, or if you have say a blued, nickel and stainless all of the same gun with same barrel length too. Along those lines. Everyone's put something up that pretty well follows it so those are good examples or like the ones I put up. I really like the 4 stainless ones I posted. I love that picture. It just needs a snub Model 649 to really round it out.

Model 60-4 and Model 36-6

Models 27-2

Baby Chiefs (17 Serial numbers apart)

A "set" of N frame short barrels (629-3 Carry Comp; 29-6 Camfour; 627 "8X" 325 Nightguard; 25-2 "Jovino.")

Found some more (photos that is)

Pair of Model 66, three inch guns. 66-2 (Ashland) and 66-5 (Lew Horton)

Probably more of a covey than a set. Nickel S&W revolvers

Set of Nickel 27-2. 3.5 inch and 5 inch

Red face My start so far.

A trio of model 14.
2 model 14 no dash and a m14-3. Plus another on the way. Cause 3 is an odd number.

Then theirs a pair of N frames to. A m29-2 and a dash 3. These have work to do. They are going hunting this year.

Or it could be a trio of N frames. The 2 m29 and a model 25 in 45 acp.

Interesting thread, it's great to see others thoughts on sets.
The best part is there's no wrong way to group.

Very nice collection you got going there. A Model 14,is that essentially a longer barrel Model 15? Like longer than 4 inch? I think that's what I read about them.

Well, here's my offerings I suppose. Not much here (yet), but it is a start at least. However, I have a ton of work to do filling in the gaps.

On on hand, I have the full size, blued, 6 shot 38 special and the compact 5 shot 38 special.

On the other hand I have 3 J frames, but one of them is a cheat! The blued and nickel are old school, full weight with pinned barrels. The stainless is a 637-2. It's just the closest thing I could get to all 3 at this particular moment. I one day will own a snub, stainless square butt Chief with a pinned barrel so I will have a complete set.

Another thing I have to accomplish is to add a blued, snub, RB Mod. 10, a snub, blued Mod. 19, a snub, blued Mod. 49, snub, blued Mod. 40 (if I can find an old lemon squeezer with the grip safety) and a snub, blued Mod. 31 (or maybe this would be the only 3 inch). They all have to be in great shape too which makes it harder and more expensive to build that set. Who knows, maybe I'll add a shorter barrel, blued 27. Problem is, I also want all of that in nickel AND in stainless and with as many pinned/recessed as possible. I don't think I'll get them all pinned, but I am going to try! Thanks for participating and hopefully we keep getting more great pictures in here.

From right to left with 8-3/8 barrels:

M-17-4 .22LR
M-48-4 .22WMR
M-53-2 .22 Jet
M-14-4 .38 Special
M-27-2 .357 Magnum
M-29-3 .44 Magnum
M-25-9 .45 Colt
M-57-1 .41 Magnum (with scope)
M-29-3 Silhouette 10-1/2”
Dan Wesson Model 15 with 15” barrel

I found out only a few weeks before I took these pictures that the Smith & Wesson M-15 was also available with an 8-3/8 barrel, but this forum is the only place I’ve ever seen one.

From front to back in the first pic:

3" 29-3
4" 29-2
6" 29-2
8-3/8" 29-3
10-5/8 29-3 Silhouette

A Model 17-3, a Model 16-3 and a Model 14-2. (They may not all be perfect contemporaries, but they're at least fraternal triplets. )

Here's a set with the heavy barrel configuration. A Model 17-6, a Model 16-4 in .32 H&R Magnum, and a Model 14-5.

In the 22s the middle gun to the right started life as a round butt model 10, I cut it for adjustable sights installed a 6" 22 barrel and reamed a 22 cylinder to 22 Harvey Kay Chuck, a shortened 22 Hornet wildcat, I also have a 22TCM cylinder for it.

The front gun in the 357 started as a model 10-2, has a recessed model 19 cylinder, adj sights and a 2 1/2" 19 barrel. Someday I might make one of the 28s into a 357 Bain and Davis, which uses a 44 case necked to 357
LOL But here is a "set" of 45s Many of them customs

The front gun is a modified 1917 with a cut 1950 barrel, cut down grip frame and sights, the next 2 stainless guns were made from 629-1 to be 45 colts, the 4" of those cut to fire acps in full moon clips.
The 1955 on the left with the bonded ivory has been fitted with a reamed 29 cylinder to be a 45 colt,
The first one on the right was a 8 3/8 25-5 I cut to 5" and installed a reamed recessed 29 cylinder to have a pinned and recessed 45 colt

I think I have 9 or 10 modified S&W revolvers. Just never taken a picture of them together. Maybe when I get home from the job I am on in a couple weeks

Model 14 is/was a target masterpiece. 6 in barrel with adjustable sights.

Model 15 is/was a combat masterpiece. Usually 4 in barrel and fixed sight.

Great pics guys, awesome sets.

VERY NICE SETS!! I especially like the exposed rod/full length lug set. That's a really cool type of set! You can't do that with a ton of these old guns. That's cool and they are all the same thing essentially, just different calibers?? Beautiful set. I like the others as well, but that's my favorite.

In the '50s and '60s S&W built the Masterpiece series to be as close to a set as they could. The K22 (Model 17), K32 (Model 16) and K38 (Model 14) were their target revolvers and usually came with 6" barrels. To make them all as close as possible to be the same weight and balance, S&W varied the rib width on the top of the barrel to compensate for the differing bore diameters.

The K22 had a small rib because less material was removed. The K38 had a wide rib to compensate for the larger bore, and the K32 was in between.

When the full underlug Smiths came around, they dropped this practice, probably as a cost cutting measure. The extra machining to tailor the rib to make the weight match probably didn't matter to most people, and by this time bullseye shooting was not as popular as it had been.

(The 14-5 has a threaded hole in the underlug end because it came to me with a Wichita barrel weight/compensator attached. I haven't yet made a proper plug for the hole.)

That's really cool. I am more into snubs, but even I dig that set. I love all with lug, all without lug. That's wonderful and I'm very glad you have such a cool set goin on. One of these days I'll get my sets together, just gonna take a while. I'm a little late to be starting my collection, but better late than never. Nice stuff, thanks for sharing! I learned something new.

That's very nice! What are the changes? If I had to guess, I'd say one has the half moon sight, and it "appears" to have one a 4 screw and the others 2 look like 5 screws. Is that correct or no? Very nice looking guns too. Baby means I frame too correct? It also appears they are all flat latch models?
Or is the half moon sight one different? Thanks for sharing! Oh, and I see the one with the half moon also has early style grips. Those went out with the half moon correct? Just testing myself to see if I've learned my facts properly or if I need work on them.

all are 5 screw , all are J frame ,All have short grips that would be the same as a I frame Sights are 1/2 round , Ramp smooth,Ramp aerated.
You and i need more work on The differences of S&W guns ,I think it is a lifelong task

I agree, I love learning all I can, especially if I can look at a picture and know what the differences are. I love learning about these things and I want to learn more about Colts, but the Smiths are my favorite. I spend a lot of time on old forum threads reading up on whatever I can.

Default set of K frames...

..that I enjoy. All of them get a rotation to the range. They're all nice shooter grade.
The 19-3 snubbie doesn't go in a holster, it's been shot, but doesn't have a carry mark on it. Also have the matching box, docs, tools in the plastic sleeve. (funny though, the s/n on the stocks don't match the gun. Bummer there)
The rest get carried from time to time hiking, atv riding, fishing and EDC.
Top left then clockwise:
66 ND 6"
19-3 2 1/2"
19-3 4"
617-6 4"
66-1 2 1/2"
66-2 2 1/2
66 ND 4"
66-2 4" w/ TTT
It's funny, I remember the exact circumstance of bringing each of 'em home, cleaning 'em up, being excited to get them to the range.............but I'll be darned if I remember what I had for dinner yesterday.
I guess some stuff is more important to me than other stuff.
There are some beautiful SETS here, I enjoy the pics.
Thanks OP.

The beautiful pics of these pieces of real life, "Functional Art" in this thread is just fantastic. You gentlemen have exquisite tastes!!!

My humble collection of .38Special snubs means a lot to me as each has a specific job and carry use depending on dress and location. 4 Smiths, one Colt all have been solid...

These are my matching "J" frames. I've swapped the Altamont grips out for the fantastic stock Magna's and the "Tyler-T" to make a winning combo grip, no pics yet though... I found myself carrying both of them today... NY reload style because they fit my hand & carry so well in a "Nemesis" pocket holsters and a Bianchi (Model "58" Holster) @ 4:00. Having 2 Bianchi speed strips in my left rear pocket makes for plenty of firepower on tap while still being extremely comfortable. It's Tyler T's for the rest of my "J" and "D" frame snubs here on out!
Old pic with the Altamont's on...

Edit: Here is one pic of my Nickel M36 with Magna's & Tyler combo, manufactured in 78'... Next up a pic of the Blued 77' Model 36...
