Does anyone know if Smith & Wesson ever marked a revolver with a
P on the side of the frame above the front of the trigger guard?
Of the very few revolvers I have seen with the P also have had US on the
back strap. Also the few I have found that have a Smith & Wesson letter
stating the U.S. was marked by Smith & Wesson (most have the U.S. on the side of the frame above the trigger guard) have not had the P mark.
I am thinking the proof P on the side of the frame above the front of the trigger guard and US on the back strap was put on by the US Government and not Smith & Wesson. Which makes me wonder at what facility they
would have done this.
The time frame for these markings I am interested in are in the 1950s and 1960s.
Is there anyone with a letter stating Smith & Wesson put a P on the Revolver? I wonder if Roy Jinks has come across such an entry in the records? Sure not much information on these revolvers on the net.
Thanks for reading.
