Default what did you shoot today?

It's been a few weeks since I've been to the range, so I decided today was a good day to go. (My wife calls it my therapy). Shot some of my regular range guns and shot a couple of my recent buys for the first time. I won't post all of my targets, but here is 50 rounds through my 29-2. All close up shots. The center mass shots were 21 foot (7 yds), and the head shots were 30 foot (10yds). What did you shoot last time you were at the range?

Last range trip included my Model 10-10 CDC I picked up last year along with my 1911. Lots of fun. Next trip will include the Model 60-7 and Model 66-2 I just picked up from the LGS.

Browning Hi Power, S&W 659, and a couple of SAA's

Good fun

Met up with a couple of LE guys and ran break down drills with them. They were very nice to the old man.

Going to shoot both of these babies today in anticipation of going to the family mountain home for Memorial Day Weekend...

The "N" frame is the primary "Woods Gun" with its little brother "J" frame being the NY reload! The .44 stoked with 255 grain hard cast Magnums from Underwood... the .38 with 158 grain hard cast full wad cutters from Buffalo Bore!

I like that Colt Cobra... I need to take out my Colt Agent... Your Cobra's "underweight" 2nd cousin with a bad complexion/finish...

Shooting story today- not a wesson story, but great fun story anyway.

I host purple martins on my farm, semi domestic swallows that live in gourds. Super fun and naturally one becomes very fond and protective of ones friendly wild birds.

So there have been some crows stalking around the area under the gourds, probably scoping out the gourds for potential harvest of the young when available. Not something I support! The gourd rack is about 75 yards from my front porch, and I decided I would try just scaring them off. I have a little mauser DSM 34 22, very sweet and easy to shoot single shot military trainer from the mid thirties in Germany. So I left the tangent sight set to 25 yards and just aimed low on the body, thinking the bullet would probably pass right under them and might give them a good scare and might keep them away. (you all are probably going to have to cut me some slack for not going directly for the kill, I love most all birds, with the exception of starlings) So after 3 days and 3 shots, still the crows were coming back and lurking. So today I slid that beautifully machined slider on the tangent ladder out to the beautifully engraved numerals-75, dropped a CCI standard velocity cartridge into the chamber, and slipped out the door and braced off the wall, held the sharp point of the front sight center body, took up the first stage of the trigger... pop. He just slumped over, hardly flinched. A nice rifle is a truly beautiful and amazing thing to hold!

Another requal day at the range for work....M&P9C, M&P40; M&P9 2.0; 870 and M16A2. But by far, the most fun, wasmy new 10-6 4” heavy barrel. It was one of the New York State Corrections guns AIM was selling last week. Lots of holster wear on the outside and the checkering on the right side stock panel was worn smooth, but mechanically it was brand new. Barely any wear on internals, just a lot of built up grease and junk. Shot like a dream, simply could not miss with it. Was hittting 6” steels with it at 90 feet (farthest marked off distance on our pad). I think it’s going to be my new favorite shooter. I need to get some pics taken and uploaded on a new thread.

I put 250 rounds in the 17-1 and 100 rounds through 19-3. They both still shoot straight.

Default Day 1 (1/2 day) NZ Wild. Inch Nationals.

My first WB match and almost 2 years sincle I short a CAS Match. Got to the venue late, had some car issues, hurried through my prep.

Stage 1: 10 rifle, 6 shotgun, 28 Pistol.
Had a brain fade at the loading table. Closed action and lowered the hammer on the shotgun but forgot to lower hammer on the rifle. Picked up y the R/O as I staged the rifle. Stage DQ but I shot it anyway for the experience. Light primer strike on one shotgun target. Should have manually cocked hammer and fired again but ejected and moved on to next target.

Stage 2: 10 rifle, 5 shotgun and 21 pistol.
Got to the line with no mag in the pistol, but the R/O took pity on me and allowed me to load on the line (like I’m used to in IPSC). Short stroked the rifle twice (how I miss my old one, stolen last year) Missed 2 targets through hurrying my shots.

Stage 3: 6 rifle, 6 shotgun, 21 Pistol.
Pistol targets were a progressive sweep of 6, dropping the first target each sweep. Lost my place, 1 miss and a procedural. Forgot that this particular ‘97 shotgun will lock up if the forened pulled back into shoulder. Lost a few seconds trying to rack it then cocking the hammer by hand and pulling trigger again to unlock action. Ended up taking three shots from the window instead of 2 and moving to next window, so another procedural.

Stage 4: 10 rifle, 7 shotgun, 21 Pistol.
Tilted shotgun while working the action, dropped round on the carrier to the ground. Picked it up again at the end and threw it into the breech for the last target. Short stroked the rifle again and when it went “click” yanked on the lever so hard that a rifle round fell out too!

Oh well tomorrow’s another day.

My last range trip was with my daughter and son-in-law 3 weeks ago before leaving for work. We shot my 1911, my Beretta M9, my 5" 27-2 and my wife's 60-15. A good time was had by all.

I'm planning to make a range trip tomorrow, but haven't decided what I will bring yet.

Went to the Gun Club today with my new Forum friend BlackTalonJHP. I shot four guns, including my 6" Model 14-3, two brand new Shields (a 2.0 in 9mm and a FDE in .40S&W), and my Colt M-4 22lr carbine.

I didn't make it to the range until yesterday because of waiting on Fedex to deliver a package, but I had a great time. I brought my 629-3 Classic, my 627 Pro, my 6 1/2" 27-5 and my Beretta M9 and shot 150 44, 200 357 and 200 9MM. Then as I was picking things up, a range buddy drove up with a new Savage 110 Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor and helped him get it sighted in.

I went to the range yesterday. Shot a High Standard Supermatic, along with 3 vintage Smiths: a 4” 66 ND, 4” 28-2, and a 19-5 snubby. This is the second time shooting the snub, since having some work done, and I’m amazed that I shoot it better, than the other 2 revolvers, especially with .357 rounds. At 25 yards, double action, it shot a couple 6” groups, with one 5-shot string putting four of the shots into a 3” circle. The Supermatic always shines, and is likely the most accurate gun I’ll ever own.

Default Well, yesterday....

Well, yesterday I shot some misc. 30-06 reloads that I've been wanting to reprocess, along with some scattered 9mm that I shot out of my Kel Tec sub2000. I was trying to dial in the sites on the Kel Tec and wasn't quite satisfied when I left the range.

I also tested my 686 that I just got back from the factory for the recall 'M' stamp. Works great, so far., but I didn't have the really hot loads that gave me trouble so that's for another day.

I didn't shoot my 9 pistols, .38 specials or the Mosin. I just got dies in for the Mosin yesterday and I'm ready to load them up.

Thursday I finally got out and shot some skeet.
1938 vintage Winchester Model 42 Skeet grade
Solid rib, straight grip skeet choke, aftermarket butt stock but very pretty wood. Shows it's age but shoots nice. Needs a goin' over and maybe an upgrading.
Did pretty well too.
2 1/2" shells. Reloads w/ 1/2oz #8 and LilGun powder.
Takes a while to load them on the single stage MEC.
You get used to the 12ga progressive real quick!

Hi Gents,

What a great thread this is.

Okay so not strictly shot today but my last range trip was to try and and thoroughly enjoy my new XCR 'pistol' in 300blk. Lovely it..!

Cheerio,

Roy

I'm very fond of all my CZ's but, for some reason, I like my all-steel 75 Compact the most. At 10 yards, it's one of the most accurate pistols in my collection.

CCI Blazer Brass, 124gr FMJ

S&B, 115gr FMJ

The first time I shot a CZ was in 1979, during a Warsaw Pact weapons familiarization day at the range. Our friends and allies in the Israeli Defense Force were conducting joint-exercises with NATO and they had brought several Egyptian-capture AK's, CZ's, Makarovs, etc. I got to shoot a CZ 75 and it was love at first bang. It certainly changed my opinion of Combloc weapons as cheap, second-rate dreck you couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with.

The only modifications I made were to swap-out the plastic guide rod for a stainless one, VZ grips for the factory plastic grips and add rubber magazine bump pads from CGW.

I also did a 15 yard POI test with my 6.5" Model 29-2 after warming-up with the CZ.

Federal 240gr. JHP

First 6 shots were impacting low and left so I adjusted elevation three-clicks up and windage five-clicks right and was pretty satisfied with the results.

15 yards, Fiocchi 200gr JHP, .44 Special

I had nine rounds of Fiocchi .44 Special left from a previous range trip. It has always performed well in my other .44's and it was no exception in the 29-2. Needless to say, I've ordered a few more boxes of it while I get my reloading bench set back up.

I was scheduled to shoot the qualification for my LEOSA permit on Wednesday the 23rd, so Tuesday I went out by the garage and did a little practice. I shot an Officer's Model sized RIA .45, my lightweight full sized 1911 and a Browning Hi-Power. The RIA shot well, but wasn't going fully into battery after each shot and the 1911 stove piped once. So I decided to use the Hi-Power for my qual. Got to the range and the firearms instructor told me that the course of fire was 50 rounds, at 7, 15 and 25 yards, including some weak hand shooting. Well, I hadn't shot at 25 yards for quite some time and I have a bum shoulder that needs a total replacement. Makes getting a handgun up to eye level a real bugger bear.

Anyway, I shot a 85%, which I didn't think was too bad. Next year, I'll practice at 25 yards and with my weak hand.

It was a great day at the range! I brought my aunt, uncle, and 3 younger cousins (ages 14, 16, & 22) with me for the first time. Aunt and uncle don't own guns, and the boys have been itching to try it out. My uncle came to me and asked if I could show them the ropes. I said absolutely. I gave them all of the beginner info on safety, responsibility, etc. I figured the best entry level gun would be a 63-5 22lr. I had them shoot that for a while to learn the basics. They shot the snot out of that(750 Rounds!!), and then I promoted them to the 66-2 with .38 special wadcutters(250 rounds). They liked the 63-5 but they LOVED the 66-2! Ear to ear smiles on all of em! So now there are 3 new revolver fans in the world.

Another great day at the range. I love the looks I get when I'm the only one there shooting revolvers. They look at me like I'm crazy! Today I shot about 100 rounds through my 986 for the first time. It shot extremely low so I had to make adjustments. It shot like a dream after I got it sighted in. I shot about 300 rounds of 38 special wadcutters through my trusty 28-2 and 586. Shot 50 rounds of 230 grain bear load through my 57-1 and 30 rounds of 44 mag through my 29-2 (not pictured).

As usual, I am a bit late with this sort of thing......but.......had a unique episode. We churched w/age mates (70plus) in Pensacola a few years ago.

She likes guns.........no apparent reason tough. Her daughters thinks she is crazy. Him & her drove 900 miles 2 yrs ago from Pens. to Ohio just so she could shoot a machine gun. I put her on a 9mm shoulder fired bipod gun of recent mfgr, good target sites, 70 rnds,. easy trigger, short stock, no recoil. Dont have a picture of her with it but here is one of Donna......you can get the idea.

Last week, they came back to shoot again. She had bought a dresser AR. Some sales person took advantage of old folks on this one. Picatinny rails every where, scope, red dot scope, bipod, CAR stock, the works. She couldnt see into the scope........she is left eye, right shoulder. Just wont work.......switched to left shoulder, much better. Still couldnt site on spray paint cans at 100 ft. He was just as bad.......dispensed many rnds, very few hits. I did ok, but had to site 4-6" low. Next day, I brought one of my ARs, normal sites, short stock. Both of them did much better but really inconsistent.....their pastor is experienced shooter. I will encourage him to take them to his local range........sans scope.

And.......a watercooled Maxim........that they both really liked. They did 500 rnds with that........had a nest of bigger freon cans & an old kitchen sink. They scattered that stuff all over the hillside & were delighted. I expect her to call back & ask me to find them one.!!!!
