Received some 38 cal bullets from RMR. These are 158 g JHP made in house. I have always had good luck with their in house made bullets.

I put 5 g unique under them and they shoot very pleasantly. I then launched 50 through two of my 43 yo revolvers a 19-3 and 10-5. My son stopped by and I recruited him to shoot while I filmed. Unfortunately the 19-3 was out of focus.

Good for your son! The first round DA with the 19 was a bit rough, but the next one looked good.

A 2 1/2" 19-3 is comfortable to shoot with midrange .38 Special ammo. Sounds like you hit a good combination. What was the grouping like?

The grouping was very good. I can ring the 4" steel from 20 yards off hand every time with both pistols. I have not put it on paper yet but plan to tomorrow along with my 19 4".

In my opinion he has a problem with staging the trigger too long, but most of the time he finds the mark. I have discovered its best to leave him alone while shooting as long as it is safe. It seems the more I try to adjust his style to what I think is correct, he becomes frustrated. This results in his lack of hitting the target and interest.

From the two shots I saw, he jerked the first one and held a bit too long on the second. However, I fully agree with your philosophy, as stated here:

Yep. Teach him the basics and let him develop. When he identifies an issue, let him come to you for advice. Then you are teaching upon request.

One thing you should teach up front is to get the habit of focusing on the front sight, not the target and not the rear sight. Your eye can only focus on one point. In this case, it should be the front sight. I've been amazed at how much this will improve the shooting of my students, once they acquire the habit.
