In the last several months I have added a few revolvers to my overall collection of guns. I already had a model 29 classic DX 5" bbl and a customized model 15. I have added a 1968 10-5 4" bbl, a 19-4 NIB with 3T's 4" bbl, a 28-2 6"bbl and a nice 17-3 6" bbl.

I am not fond of snubbies in any frame

Where is the hole , if any?? Don't want a 41 mag

25-9 4” 45 Colt. At least it is on my short list.
Something in 44 special would be nice or a J frame 22?
just too many options when it comes to Smiths.

I see N frames and K frames but no L frames. I don't see stainless represented either. Maybe a 686? Maybe in 5" while your at it? :-)

I think you need a k22/6” master piece target, a k38 pre 14 model number 6” barrel target masterpiece, a k38 pre 15 model number combat masterpiece. And a m58/m57,,,,, lol

A 625 or a 586 would be a good way to go. Both are great shooters.

If you want to stick with pinned and recessed a 66 or a 66-1 is a great revolver.

The 5" Model 25 chambered for the 45LC cartridge is a favorite among Forum members. Only 2000 of the matte finished wheel guns were produced beginning in the -7 engineering revision and completing in the -9 engineering revision I know that I need to take a new photo with the gun clean


There are the Model 27/327/627 revolvers. They have been offered as both six shooters and eight shooters over the decades. One of my favorites is the hard to find 8 shot Model 627 heavy hunter, but the blue and nickel revolvers are just as sweet


I am a HUGE fan of the Heritage series, kind of a mix between new world metallurgy and old world style Most of the models could be purchased in blue, nickel or color case hardened (CC done by Doug Turnbul)


Then there is the Gran Daddy of them all, The Most Powerful Production Revolver on the Planet.

Obviously I am talking about the 500 Smith and Wesson Magnum.

Capable of launching projectiles weight from as little a 275 grains up to gigantic 725 grin wad cutters.

Those that hand load can produce any ammunition from mild to wild, the cartridge is very versitile

Hey OP, that's a nice combo of guns you have.
I would suggest a model 14 target masterpiece. I've found the model 14 to be a really great gun. The best part is, they can be found in great shape and at a reasonable cost.
The next one I like is the model 25 in 45 acp. These are very nice also.
It is difficult to decide at times what to look for.

For some reason, I cannot reply other than a quick quote. This happened once before to me. If I can remember some of the comments. A Model 14 would be nice. I had an early 70's. I had a 25 once 45acp in a presentation box. Never fired it. Sold it after 10 years. There was a time when you had to wait a year for them.

My model 15 was customized by TNT arms ( John Towle) in N. Conway NH in 1979. A 6"L 1.2"Dia. bbl was installed, and the latch was milled into the bbl. A full length Bomar rib was put on. All action parts mirror polished, cylinder air spun to polish the inside. It spins free like a top. Flat spring gone, and a coil spring installed. Trigger grooves gone and polished. Cylinder holes opened for speed loaders. It shoots better than I can, and I have never felt or or shot a smoother action. It is super smooth, and front heavy. Rapid fire with mid range wadcutters hardly moves the bbl on recoil.

What is a registered magnum?

Every collection needs a "J" frame Kit Gun or 2, just for fun. Models 34 and 63 are a nice addition but can be addicting.

S&W began manufacture of .357 Magnum revolvers in 1935. Initially, they could only be obtained by special order. S&W stamped each gun with a unique, sequenced registration number and provided a registration request card in the box. If completed and sent in to S&W, they would send you back a registration certificate. Thus, "Registered Magnum".

As for your what's next, my suggestion would be to purchase the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 4th Edition, start at the front and buy one of everything, in order. When finished, you will have a very fine collection of S&W firearms.

Seriously, if you don't already have a copy, you really should get one. I guarantee that browsing that book will give you more ideas about "what's next" than imaginable.

KS Charlie, aside from the fine collection, will I have anything else? If times get hard and food is scarce, if you boil them long enough, do they ever get soft enough to eat?

Birdgun, that is a beautiful 25. One is on my thought list. I do have a SAA Colt made in 1927 that I inherited, so I am not without a 45

As I have never attempted boiling and eating one, I cannot honestly say just how soft they get. However, if times ever do get that tough, you will at least have a very broad selection of what to use to obtain sustenance.

IMHO, every needs a model 18, or a pre-18, or a 4" 17, or a 4" 617. Some of us have all of the above. A 16-4 is a good addition as well.

I am having trouble making a reply. Sometimes I can, and other times???? Anyway I have a lightly used,1975, 28-2 coming, and a 1984, Very lightly used ( safe queen for the last 32 years ) Model 60 stainless coming. So, stainless and an N frame. 28-2 was my first revolver years ago. Oh, and my 29-5 Classic DX is 5"

A K-32 and something in .44 Special--not necessarily a triple-lock. But definitely a K-32.
