M-19 Collection Off To A Good Start..!
Note: I of course meant to say 'OFF' and not 'of' in the title - my (embarrassing) apologies. Clearly I was a little too excited..!
Hi Gents,
After I got my first model 19 (see my first post 'introducing me & my 19) I have been quite taken by these wonderful revolvers, so decided a modest collection would be something to aim for (funds allowing).
After a visit with a friend yesterday I came home with the revolver you see here; a beautiful 'unfired' 19-4 (1979) complete with box/docs & tools etc).
The photo isn't great, so I will get more done in due course but wanted to get one sorted to share with you chaps.
My preference if for magna grip but I'm not complaining at all, as I'm not planning to shoot this. The grips are rather light in colour too, somewhat 'blond' which I think is quite unusual.
My idea was to initially focus on 1970's model 19's (don't hold me to that though ), so I'm hopeful I'm off to a good start with this one.
Hope you don't mind my gushing and thanks for letting me share.
Cheerio,
Roy

Not a bad idea......IMO the Pinned and Recessed guns are a bit more collectible........ lots out there ..... many "used" but not abused Police guns..... fewer +95% guns.
Now you need a 2 1/2 inch.........................................
Good Luck and have fun!

Model 19-4
Nice Model 19 RoyS! I tend to prefer the Target Stocks, and that's what you're going to find on most Model 19's, except for the 2 1/2" versions. That's a nice set of Goncalo Alves on your new one.
Best of luck with your new acquisitions!

RoyS,
I thought it would be a good idea to link your other thread Introduction; Me & My 19 since you had mentioned it. Something you might want to do on future threads.

Roy, that is a very nice 19. I have two, a 6" CHP Commemorative and a 4". They're great all around revolvers.

Hi Gents,
Here's a few more photos. Although I haven't quite got the hang of taking pictures that accurately reflect the high-gloss bluing yet. Aside from the very faintest of turn lines (almost nothing) this has 100% wonderful deep blueing. I will continue to play with my camera/light and see if I can capture that at some point.
Cheers,
Roy

I think the 19-4 may be “the best version” of the Combat Magnum they made. I put that in quotes because we all have an opinion on what we think is the best, but for me, the -4 is it.
Congrats on your new revolver. Looks great!

Great start! I think you will want to do some shooting with this revolver, it's part of the joy of owning one of these. All you have to do is take care of it properly and it will stay in that condition.

There are many worse past times to pursue. Not likely to go down in value either.

Agree!
If you dont shoot it, someone else will. I could not stand the urge to fire it once in a while. Just keep it clean and out of a holster. It will be just fine.

Indeed my friend. I think you have hit the proverbial nail on the head...
I'm even developing a nervous 'twitch' each time I see one of these beauties.
Couldn't resist it, just one more photo, this time of my pair. Just a small collection thus far but hopefully one that will grow.
Cheerio,
Roy

Ooh! TT, & TH on a 2 1/2" Model 19? I like it! Did it come like that, or was it modified?
Thanks for posting!

Sooo nice with the TH & TT. I think a 1970's NIB one of these has just gone to the very top of my dream list of guns to find.
Lovely to see this one.

Okay Gents,
My apologies for getting somewhat repetitive with sharing images of my 'only' two 19's but I've been so inspired by some of the truly wonderful photographs shared by members, I just had to give it another go. The light looked good, so I took the chance and I think these images have come out better and more accurately reflect the finish/condition on these lovelies.
Now if I could only find a buyer for one of my antique guns I would have some more funds to grow this collection..
Cheerio,
Roy

I decided to collect the P&R Mod. 19's in all the barrel lengths and in nickel (love nickels and snubs). But before I even found a 6" I changed my mind and decided to move to .41 & .44 snubs. So I sold my 4", but I'll be keeping the nickel snub.

Not a fan of TT's on concealed carry guns ...... but that is sweeeeeet!!
Do like TH's on "woods guns".... as most shooting will be single action.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for your interest. I have a super rare 1870's Thomas patent self-extracting revolver and also a scarce double barreled percussion belt pistol by Wilkinson & Son. I also have a small collection of Lee-Speed rifles and have sold a few but just my favorites left, so will likely be hanging on to those.

I really think this revolver has nothing going for it at all ( ) and is a rather 'poor' choice for your collection, as such perhaps it should find a home with me...
Seriously...stunning...!

That is one of my top 5 or 6 favorite guns of all time. That is absolutely beautiful!!! I want one just like that so badly, but cannot afford it at this time. Question, is that a target hammer on it?? Looked like it kind of from the picture.

TH & TT. Red Ramp but can't tell whether it has a White Outline - a real target piece.
It sure is a looker isn't it?

Beautiful model 19s!!! The blued Combat Magnums are great guns and they really do pop when you get the light just right on them. This is one of my deepest blue model 19s (a 19-3 TR Commemorative) and somehow I got lucky enough that the photos seemed to capture the deepness of the blue - kind of like "liquid smoke".

The 2 1/2 inch barreled, round butt 19s are fantastic to shoot and I would dare say John Moses Browning was looking over the shoulder of the fellow that first came up with the idea.

Hi Richard,
Thank you for that. Gosh you did hit the jackpot with your lighting on those photos, totally outstanding, well done. What a beauty that one is. Lovely to see.
Cheerio,

Long story
Hi, All:
This is a picture of my only S&W Mod. 19, a 1970 Mod. 19-3 Combat Magnum. It was purchased 7/20/1970, after waiting for several years to find one for sale. In the 1960 era, the Mod. 19 Combat magnum was the duty handgun, of choice, by the CIA, and the FBI. S&W couldn't keep up the supply to the USA government, during those years, and none were found for sale, by the public. I finally found one, and bought it, in '70. During our many moves, to new homes, that we were allowed to rent, with a growing family, the factory box for the 19, was lost. That was when I started making wood cases, to replace the lost ones. The first one, shown with the 19, was made from a cigar box. Also shown, is a J. A. Henckels knife that I carried on my belt, riding my old Triumph motorcycle to Daytona, in March, To attend the "Daytona 500" race every year, A group of IBEW electricians, the local 683 "Lamp Lighters" Club, rode together, to Daytona, from Ohio in the years 1973-74-75. I can't remember how the 19, was equipped originally, but I did cut in, the red inset front sight, and it has a 3/8" smooth combat trigger, WO rear, and std. 3/8" hammer. It is also shown with a G. Lawrence holster, that I rescued, and rebuilt, so it could be used with the 19. Thanks for sharing this long winded, true, story.
