Default Smith Wesson 2" 38, what year ?

I talk to a guy that has 2", 38 cal. He said was made in the late 20's, and 30's. It has black plastic diamond grips. I have never seen one with these grips. All it have seen had walnut diamond grips. Is anybody familar with this model. He said it is a pre model. Just not sure of this. Any help, and maybe pictures, would help.

The gun looks like a older Chiefs Special, with black plastic diamond grips. The cylinder release isn't the old style. The owner said the grips, have the matching serial number to the gun. Which,I think anybody could have done that.

There was not a factory S & W 2" .38 Hand Ejector made in the late 1920s, but it may be a .38 Safety Hammerless, which probably would have had black hard rubber stocks. Agree that pictures would help .

With the edit, it could be a 1930 decade 2" .38 Military & Police, which came with either hard rubber or walnut service stocks and both round and square butt frames. If you are able to get a serial number, most of these were in the late 500000 to early 600000 range.

If you say it looks like an older Chiefs Special, can we assume you are positive it is a five-shot and not a six-shot?

If it could be six, and I hear pre-model, 2” barrel, and plastic grips, my first thought is always of a mutilated BSR.
