My New Favorite Revolver- 14-4
Okay, the title was kind of silly- they're ALL my favorites!
But this new one I'm especially smitten with.
Last month before we went on vacation I picked up this pristine 14-4. I didn't have a chance to shoot it or take photos until now. The book says 1977, and the stocks aren't numbered to it. The serial no. is 76K8547 if anyone could help me narrow down the shipping date.
Initial shooting went well. I was shooting some very old WW Super Match 148 gr. wadcutters that were given to me, along with some 158 gr. hard cast plinking ammo I'd loaded for a different gun. I'll do a real range report after some fine tuning. I have great expectations.
I paid $500, and couldn't have been happier to spend that money. This is my nicest S&W up to this point.

You got a fine gun at a very low price. I have a K-38 Heavy Masterpiece in a high percentage condition. My grandson will get it but not until i die and am buried.

76K numbers were issued in 1979. The target stocks are correct for that gun - target stocks were not numbered to the gun and K frame target stocks with the speed loader cut were first shipped in about 1978.
Here is an ANIB Model 14-4 that I purchased new in the early 1980s. It letters to 1980. It has the same stocks as you have (walnut targets with the speed loader cut).
You did well on the price.

I carried the Model 15, the 4” version, as my issued weapon for years when Malloy & Reed of Adam-12 fame was on TV.

Very nice. You will find it to be one of your more accurate revolvers. Good choice.

My thanks to everyone for your kind words!
And I forgot to include that it came with the cleaning rod and sight adjustment tool.

Model 14-4
That's a beautiful Model 14-4 RobertJ.! Congratulations on the great acquisition!
Mine shipped in 1980, has matching box and paperwork, but the funny thing was; I purchased it with a set of N-Frame stocks on it! Oh well, I wanted the gun, and it was near perfect in every other detail, so I just popped a set of spare stocks on it and called it good!
