Default S&W Model 28-2

I purchased this S&W Model 28-2 and a letter states it was shipped to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, Austin TX. The letter states it was shipped as brushed blue finish, but apparently the finished has been changed. Does anyone know why?

Welcome to the forum.
Although it might be paint (ie; Duracoat, Ceracoat, KG gunkote, etc), it also looks like industrial hard chrome (not nickel but might be???) and HC is what I think it is. Reason being, mainly corrosion resistance but also has other advertised positives properties. HC for guns can be researched under different brand names; Armaloy, Metaloy, Robar NP3, are a few.
ETA:
Nice looking 28.
HC typically isn't cheap and although I'd prefer an original factory finish, some prefer HC to SS.

Looks like hard chrome to me too. What a great pack around heavy duty 357. Not only was HC supposed to be corrosion resistant, but also wear resistant and the coefficient of friction between parts lowered. Might not be attractive to a collector, but to me worth more as a shooter than one with a well worn blue finish. I have several finish worn blue ones. Want to trade?
