Default 10-6

I picked a police trade in 10-6. Timing is a little rough so it will be a project for me.
If someone could help with an age of the gun I would appreciate it!
SN: D47132
And the obligatory picture!

Got one very close, D47304, shipped to NYPD on July 24, 1968.

They usually bought in bulk and got large shipments, to sell to new officers. But yours actually looks in too good a shape for a regular 20-year duty tour in New York

Well, it has AUX14 written under the barrel. Perhaps a pool gun like in a corrections setting or a spare gun in an armory. It definitely isn’t very worn down!

When that was made, S&W shipped a LOT of guns that weren't timed correctly. It may have seen little use.

A police armorer should have re-timed it, or made the factory do that .

That is nice to know! Thanks!
I paid too much for this, but given the year of manufacture and condition of the finish I am happy with it! I work with a guy who was our agencies armorer and rangemaster back when we were issued model 65s. He is going to help me get it running the way it should.
I have wanted a gun made the same year I was born for a long time now. I passed up a Colt Gold Cup 1911 with the box and everything 20 years ago. It was made in 1968 and the guy wanted 1K for it. I still regret not getting it.

Oh! I paid $350.00 for it through an online dealer.

You know, that would explain something. Robert Vivas was able to find the info on my gun in his records, and it went back to the factory in October 1968. After returning to NYPD, it was sold to a probationary patrolman in January 1969.
