Default Model 28-2 ser./ year qusetion? any data base on ranges?
Hi! A friend of mine bought a Model 28-2, with 4 inch bbl today. Serial is S304xxx. I've looked at lots of info on the internet, and in all the S&W books and searched on here. Can anyone say for sure, if this gun was made in 1967. I found an article somewhere that said S304999 was the last one made in 1967, and 1968 started with S305000. Can anyone confirm that. I know S&W did not always go in sequence, but told my friend, i would try to get him a best estimate. Thanks Mike

S&W Catalog shows:

1967-1968 S290000-S304999
1968-1969 S305000-S329999

So a S304xxx would be a 1968 I'd say at the higher end of that range. But as mentioned only way to know for sure is to get a letter.
