Default Model 15-3 Serial Number Date

I recently picked up an as new condition 15-3 with box and owners sheet. Serial number is 1K989xx. Can anyone tell me year of manufacture and approximate current value? Thank you in advance, I appreciate it.

Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson says shipped in 1971. As you describe it, with original box and papers, I'd pay $600-650. But I have a thing for Combat Masterpieces. SCSW says $650 for As New In Box. The right person might pay more. Someone who thinks they must have a .357 would offer less.
