Default Early M29 and M57

I just acquired this minty Model 29. It is an "S" prefix and lazy ampersand. It dates to 1964.

Below that is it's .41 Magnum cousin, a very early 1964 [Edited] Model 57. Also "S" prefix, Cokes, presentation cases and lazy ampersand.

EDIT: See update in post #9. Both are 1964 models.

I love these older big bores! Enjoy!

Very handsome but I believe the 57 was introduced in 1964 so I would question your 1963 date. Also, being picky, not sure I would call a M29-2 made in the 9th year after introduction of the 44 an "early" example. But again, very handsome.

Very nice examples of a Model 29-2 and a Model 57. Art Doc is correct about the Model 57 being introduced in February 1964 with large shipments beginning in March/April of that year. I assume you have a clamshell style case for your 44 Magnum and a case lined with dark blue velour for your 41 Magnum.

I will have to go look again. The Model 57 has a Jinks letter. It was shipped within the first few months (I think it was August '64), so it would be a 1964. That is what I meant by "early". Not the 29-2. Sorry, my bad.

Yes, I have the standard blue flocked case for the Model 29 and the blue velour fabric case for the Model 57.

WOW, those are two beautiful revolvers and two very popular ones as well. That is one heck of a way to make an entrance.

When they were made or what you call them is irrelevant to me. They're both beautiful examples, congrats. Turning green over here.

Thank you all!

Ok, I have my facts straight now.

Model 57: #S248XXX was shipped on 7/21/1964 according to the Jinks letter.

Model 29-2: #S238XXX is also a 1964.

I am jealous!
Great pair.
I am still looking for a 4" 29-1 as well as a early 29-2.
Congratulations!
Stu

Very cool S&W big bores. I have a M29-2 but that pair would be awesome, well done. Just a little envious.
