Default Still Raining M28-2's

So, I decided to go back and see if I could get a price on that 28-2 that I would actually pay. Already have too many. This one makes number three with the 4 inch barrel. Only have one with the 6 inch barrel. . .they are much scarcer around here. This one appears nearly unfired judging by the recoil shield and forcing cone and cylinder face. Kept in a holster too long judging by the cylinder which had its share of surface corrosion. Got it for $360 which is the price I've paid for every one I have. It may go 90% when I'm done with it. Did a quick cleaning and restore. All the Q-tips came out clean too. I will have to work on the cylinder surface a good bit more while watching TV tonight. . .could always replace the cylinder but likely will not. I did take before and after pictures this time. I always forget to take the before ones. I have a ton of grips that fit this thing. Settled on the magna grips with the rounded bottom. Gun was shipped in 1974 give or take. I pay $250 for all the J and K frames, but have a little higher limit on the N frame.

Congratulations on the purchase and that is a very good price that you got it for.

I wish they were a bit more plentiful around here. I am going to post for a 4" soon. I think there is a current post for one. I go in the largest LGS around, and they hardly have a used anything. A good fellow on this forum did sell me a very nice 6" made in 1975. Actually that is a duplicate of my first handgun ever.

No worries you get flooded plenty of hands willing to help bail you out. Some KB's would look good on that..

That makes me feel like I really overpaid for mine! I kinda like the rubber grips on that.

They pop up around here all the time. A nickel J frame for two bills a few weeks ago. Also, I put the Pachs back on the gun. They do look and feel better than the magnas, combats, and targets.

Done! Replaced the cylinder and put some ivory composite grips on it. Just had to use my inventory of parts and box of grips, so no extra money invested. Still a $360 investment, but will go 90% or a bit better pretty easy. It really pays to keep boxes of gun parts and stuff around. I will show it to my friend at the pawn shop tomorrow.

Those prices are a lot less than anything you will find just south of you. Here in Florida that kind of money want buy any S&W revolvers.

Don't mean to hihack your thread; just figured I'd tack on my 28-2s.

The 4" is an "S" prefix my Dad carried as his duty gun. I never noticed at the time, but it wears K frame diamond targets. I'm not sure how they ended up there; guess he just liked the feel of them.

The 6" is an "N" prefix that has been my primary .357 shooter for many years.

You had ivory composite grips sitting around in a parts box?

You had a spare 28 cylinder sitting around in a parts box?

Damn, Bud, how big is that parts box?

There are parts and grips everywhere around here. Sometimes I don't even know where they are. Guns are so cheap here in Georgia (south of Atlanta) it's often easy to pick up a Smith for parts for under $100. I'm looking at a nickel Colt Official Police from the 1950's right now. Perfect original grips and mechanically excellent. It looks like a piece of garbage though with way too much of the nickel missing. I'd go two bills out the door but he won't go below three, so he gets to keep it. You never know when you might need a part, and hope you get lucky and have the one you need.

OK, let's see what happens. I posted for a WTB 28-2, specified condition 4" and posted in the SWCA WTB forum. Maybe it will rain in RI?

It has not started to rain yet on my WTB ad. I created a new ad. Had 1 response for a NIB 28-2, but that is not really what I am looking for
