My First Old/New in the box 17-3 8 3/8”
Picked this up today. 17-3 8 3/8” not 3-T’s. All this came in the box. Anyone need an extra holster pamphlet or Service Center card I have them. The nylon brush I know isn’t correct. The label on the box is upside down. Does that happen? Lots of paper wrapping in the box also. Gun is still greasy but that could be after market. Still I love it. My calculation puts it at 1975. Any thoughts from the experts is appreciated. Gary

My first K38 is exactly like yours! It's a little earlier, 6K serial. Shoot that revolver! Laser!

The action and lockup is amazing. The right grip panel is machine stamped 38388 which doesn’t match the Ser.#. Not sure what that means.

Very nice- congrats! The Model 17/K22 is without question the finest .22 handgun ever mfg’d (IMO of course).

Your box label is correctly placed. These two-piece boxes were shelved with the outer lid (with the S&W trademark) as the bottom tray, and the inner box resting upside down inside the tray. It is said this was done to minimize the chance that the box pieces would separate (and maybe dropping the gun) if initially picking up the box by its sides.
Additionally, I much prefer standard service hammers and triggers so I think you did especially well in that regard.

Very nice!
I wouldn't worry about the grip stock not matching. Somewhere in the past, the stocks were changed...likely a couple/three times. Now without regret you can get some replacement grip stocks that you like better than the current magna stocks.
I love my Model 17-4. You'll also love your 17-3.
God bless,
Birdgun

Thanks guys. I cleaned it up today and I don’t think it’s been fired. Now I’m that guy that has to shoot everything at least once. I’m I wrong? I’m not a collector but I have some nice stuff. In my older age I’m to the point that my wife and kid won’t know the difference. I hope she doesn’t sell anything for what I told her I paid for them.

Patiently waiting for a range report.
I wasn't the first to say it; if you don't shoot it, someone else certainly will.

Great looking long-tube K22! I have a 8.375" 17-4 and it is my most shot 22. My boys and I love to shoot it. Throw some target stocks on that beauty and take it out for a run.
Congrats and tanks for sharing,

Okay I have to shoot it so here’s my question. I have several bricks of CCI Standard Velocity for my Model 41 which by the way is from the 60’s. Should I get something that is plated so I don’t get the lead problem in the revolver or just let her rip? Thanks guys.

Neat revolver,
One of my favorite range guns is a long tube Model 17-4,
While I do not find it to be any more accurate than the 6" version the longer site radius is an advantage, replaced its factory rear site with a fancy white outline Millett which gives it another advantage.
I have long fingers so prefer target stocks over Magnas, Also prefer smooth combat trigger/semi target hammer combo over the .500 TT/TH.

Of course you have to shoot it, if only to test the legend that one of those will clean the wax from a squirrel's ear at seventy-five yards.

Just from handling it I think Targets are in order. I’m so pleased. I was the only bid on Gunbroker. Seller didn’t mention the box or anything I saw the box in a picture and I was sold.
