S&W Rosewood Smooth Grips
I have a nice set of SQ K frame Rosewood smooth targets from the mid 70's .. very dark. Any idea on their value? Also, are they the Brazilian rosewood that is no longer available?
Thanks

Your stocks are most likely Brazilian rosewood. See photo below. The stocks on the Combat Magnum are Brazilian rosewood and date to 1971. Click on the photo for a better look.

Pete I think a picture is necessary.
I have quite a few dark sets I don't believe are Brazilian.
Besides I'd like to see them.
On this the left set may be.... the right most likely not
another dark that is non IMHO
Now a couple definite...The DT's have pretty cool spider-webbing

I've been told these are rosewood. I got them in the package with a Model 57 I bought, but they were too small for the 57, so I tried them on an 18-4 I have.
Not bad.
The 57 had Hogue rubber grips on it, so I suspect someone either lost or sold the original grips, or maybe just tossed these in by mistake.
I've been told they're worth $150-200 dollars, but have no real knowledge of that myself.

Of the three type of rosewood I could find in my "World Woods in Color", the stocks that are dark in color would be closest to Brazilian rosewood. The other two types are Honduran and Indian. I have stocks made of these woods and they are not like the darkest stocks shown in the photos above.

I believe Brazilian was the most widely used, that is why it was the first to be depleted. The other ones you mentioned are still available. Mine are like the pics, and very dark

Prices on Rosewood can be all over the place.
Some people prefer really dark, and others prefer nice color and pretty grain.
Better than average rosewood can bring $150-200
The older ones that have a flush escushion and flare out at the bottom edge will do even better.

Why don't you send them to me and I will test drive them for you. Next time I am up that way at Fitzwilly's Pub, I can swing by and pick em up

I'm still learning the types of wood myself. I bought these because I like them, but have no idea what they are made of. Anyone know? RIght now they're on my 66-1, but I want to try them on a dark blue next, and see which goes best with what.

Are these Rosewood?
I join the above poster in curiosity. I realize that these aren't exactly an exact fit, since they're checkered, but is there a possibility that these are some type of rosewood?
Model 19-3 from 1973
