I've seen some amazing deals on this forum, but that one is incredible.

Maybe the gun comes with a terrible voodoo curse that makes trigger fingers fall off.

Ok,ok!

No one here actually believes that is a current tag.

That is from 1980 when the gun was bought new,it has 6 rounds fired. that's what the owner told me and he inherited the gun.

Oh and by the way in 1980 we were buying N frames for around 210 to 230 and K frames for around 200 bucks so even at the sale price that guy surely made 50 bucks on the deal. (Ffl dealer prices)

Glad I’m not the only one who did a double take on that price. Nicely done, that’s a deal

Amazing price. Congrats! I had a 25-5 convertible, 45 Colt and 45 ACP cylinders. Never fired the 45 Colt cylinder. Fired the 45 ACP a lot, as I reloaded for my 1911 as well. 2" groups at 25 yards off a sandbag. I miss this gun. Had to sell it in a cash flow crisis. If anyone has one...

Golly! I am glad you explained the price tag! I recently paid $1000.00 for one in that shape and your price tag shocked me.

WELL, that just spoiled everyone's Sunday night lol. Can't believe a gun store could be that far off on price. Would say this is the best deal that I've seen from a place that should be informed and know better. This should encourage the rest of us that those great gun deals are out there if you hunt them.

I paid $300 in 1982 for a new 6" M28 with Magna grips!

That was the going price in this area then. I also got a 6" m17 with
Magnas for the same price!

This is your luck day - I'll give $50 more than the price tag for it!

The old price tag is actually kind of depressing. Makes me think how far the dollar went back then...and doesn't now. Great new gun! Congrats!

What? You mean I can't buy one for under 5 bills?!? I'm so disappointed

Nice gun man. Looks like a museum piece - and with that price tag it's quite a time capsule too.

Yet another reminder of how old I'm getting. 1980 seems like only yesterday, til you realize it's almost 40 years ago. A lot of changes since then, and not all for the better!

From the inflation calculator:
"What cost $279 in 1980 would cost $842.18 in 2017. "
So that makes it sound about right, even a little high priced if you could find one for about $800 now.

I paid $1350 for my Model 25-5 last April. The revolver was advertised as "mint." It shoots accurately and has the sweetest action. And this revolver is not hard on the eyes either. I've given mine the nickname, "Black Beauty."

Thanks for looking at my Black Beauty.

That is one really beautiful smith !!

I do not think mine is quite that nice , mine has just the slightest muzzle wear , I suppose from being taken in out of the box .

Nice photos by the way .

I had a 25-5 6" w/presentation case I bought used in 1982 or 3 for $200 OTD. I shot Federal 225 LSWC/HP/HB ammo. I used to drive a nail in a 10 or 12 inch tree and then hang targets off that nail. That was never a problem with 22's! Together My dad, brother & I cut down a tree in 6 years with 38's. It took about 3 months for the 45 Colt to cut down a 12" tree. So, I went to 30" trees! I haven't been in that woods since we sold it in 2012 but that tree is still easy to identify!

Threads like this make me want to cry! I sold both my 25-5's (4" & 6")in 1985, and I really miss them!

I was at a show earlier this year. It was early and a gentleman was still setting up his table. He pulled a Model 1950 Army .45 out of a plastic tub and set it on the table. I saw this old, aged price tag tied to the trigger guard and my heart skipped a beat. I asked the seller if I could examine it and he said sure, but then gave me one of those looks and said "that price tag is wrong, I'll put a new one on it in a minute". I paid several times the old tag amount but still got a fair deal by today's market.

I just looked at my 1982 Shooter's Bible. The 1955 Target (M25-2) was $399 and the .44 Magnum (M29) was $419.

Guys I do have one question I would like to talk about . If you look close at the pics you can see that the barrel and frame are different color . The barrel is a blue tint and the frame is more black.

This does not bother me for I bought the gun to shoot. I do not have any reason to believe the gun has been blued . I also realize that the barrel and frame have different heat treatments or hardness. "?"
Did the barrel just blue out during the 38 years or what ?

This is the most pronounced color diff. I have seen on a smith .

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated .

Kirk

There is sometimes a uniform color to the barrel and cylinder, with the frame being a slightly different shade. My recollection is parts were blued in batches to try to get the color of all parts to match, but it is an imperfect process. This one does not appear to be refinished.

You did good on the price . Enjoy!

Default Price Tag on 25-5

I bought the 1st 19, 4", blue that I saw in my area, 1969. Price was $139, retail, no discount in those days, companies were in the middle of Vietnam. No target options, and the grips showed almost no grain. In '74, I bought a Python for $207. Lordy, lordy

Hard to go wrong with a Smith & Wesson that shoots .45 Colt.

That's a beautiful revolver. Congratulations on your purchase.

It is common.

The parts would be blued in different batches.

Model 28's will have this happen.

A collector who knows S&W's will not ding a gun for this.

Awesome Model 25 by the way.

I think that is a super nice gun and what ever you paid is a bargain. Larry
