S&W Model 30 Trade Deal

I've recently got back into shooting revolvers and my new goal is just to try to reacquire some of the revolvers I had to sell for financial reasons (buying new home, new roof, new HVAC, first born child, and other health problems). I had lucked out on two 586s in my past having traded either a built AR or a Glock 43 for both. The 686 I had I got for traded off a built 300 Blackout AR. But that's in the past, this is now and I've yet to find any 586/686 locally yet minus the new production ones which look nice but I'd prefer an older model

Started looking through Armslist locally, with again no luck so I expanded my search to all S&W revolvers just to see what would come up. Found a few 442/642s, but already have a 442 so kept looking. Then came across a S&W Model 30 that was factory nickel. Guy who had it didn't list a price but was interested in trades. This same revolver had been listed for quite some time, at least a year off and on, and I'd never had anything the guy was interested in trading for nor could we come to an agreement on a cash price.

Had recently decided to part with a S&W M&P Compact 22 with factory threaded barrel mainly cause I don't for see myself getting a suppressor anytime soon and I have other guns I prefer to shoot more. Sent an offer and waited to see what happened.

Woke up this morning to an email from the guy saying he was interested in doing the deal so long as it was a straight trade. Mine is BNIB (only ever chanbered a round,never fired) and while he doesn't know the exact round count on his he estimates it to be low. Stated it was his grandfather's (who was original owner) who placed it in a display case until his death at which time the new owner put it into his safe until recently. Stated he doesn't shoot it and would rather have something that he'll take to the range. While if it was me, I would keep it due to it being a family heirloom, some people aren't that sentimental.

Have a deal lined up for tomorrow evening, fingers crossed all goes well cause I'd love to have this beautiful revolver in my collection

Any and all information on the revolver is greatly welcomed, I honestly didn't know about this model until I saw it listed on Armslist

Is it really a Model 30 or a Model 30-1?

I reckon it depends upon which Model 36 you're going to trade for it whether it's a good deal.

I like those little 32s, lots of posts here about them if you use the search function. That one looks to be in nice condition; prices where I shop are in the $400-$600 range. That's a trade I would make. Good luck.

I would be on that like white on rice. That 4” barrel and some good handloads will impress most anyone. Change the stocks to fit your hand. The .32 Long is accurate, relatively quiet, and has little recoil.

Ended up trading for it today, lock up was tight, action buttery smooth, and none of the screws looked buggered up.

Now to find a holster and some ammo, the ammo will be easier cause Cabela's is a 15 minute drive away. The holster will take some time cause I would like real leather

Holsters for the 4” barrel S&W 34/63 and similar models should work just fine.

Was doing some cleaning up today on my work bench and found a set of VZ grips I had originally bought off Amazon on sale for $25 awhile back when my wife originally expressed interest in my S&W 442. That was short lived, but I was only out $25. Thought I would see if they would fit cause I thought they would. Plus, might peak my wife's interest in this gun

I actually kind of like it, might eventually change them out for the Black Cherry ones but time will tell. The originals were put up for safe keeping for the time being

Still need to go get some ammo, all I've done so far is clean it up and do some polishing on it

This Bianchi holster would fit your 30-1 perfectly. Not sure if they still make them, but I would look for an older one anyway. I understand the newer ones are made in Mexico, and the older ones are really very nice. Fully lined, and I see them for sale on eBay all the time. Real leather, and very nicely made, classic to match your gun. Your 30-1 is the same size as this 63.

It's the Bianchi #10L "Outdoorsman".

By the way...that was a great trade. That is a very good looking gun!

I'll tell you like I tell every other new Model 30 owner... consider reloading for it... the ammo has just gotten expensive enough and hard enough to find that if you want to really enjoy shooting it a lot you get more of a selection and more ammo by "rolling your own." I buy factory reloaded JHPs for EDC only and load a bunch of swaged SWCs for fun shooting. I've got moulds for at least 4 or 5 more bullets and as soon as I can get a round tuit plan to expand my shooting volume and variety for the various 32s I have. I'm also hoping to have my recreation of a K-32 soon, so that should raise the demand for ammo around here.

I had a nickel 3" M30-1 that was a good shooter. When I bought it, I believe it had only been fired 6 times.

The 4 inch barrel is a little uncommon on those later 32's. I have a blue one that is like new. I bought it just because of the barrel length.

Factory ammo in 32 S&W Long has been fairly easy to come by. A good choice is Sellier & Bellot 100 gr, which has a flat point and is reasonably priced. A reason for handloading is that you can get 900-1000fps from your 4" bbl with 3.5 gr of Universal and a 95 gr SWC. BTW, I don't think it has been mentioned that the 30-1 was the model for which S&W switched from the I frame to the J frame.
