Default Magazine article?

I'm trying to find a old magazine article I read online several years ago, I can't remember the magazine's name or the name of the man the article was about.

The man was old, and only used .41 magnum, .44 special, or .44 magnum, revolvers? And said something like anything more than 4" or 6" barrel is just for show?

He used those types of revolvers for hunting every north american game, deer, elk, bear, everything, I read it online but it was old enough that it would have been only in a magazine when released.

I would like to read it again, if anyone knows who this is.

Thanks,
Tony

Sounds like Elmer Keith to me!

He was one of the first writers I paid attention to, and when I started reading him (early 70's), he wrote for Guns & Ammo. Check out his work, that could be who you're looking for. I'm sure more than one gun scribe wrote about him, so whoever wrote the article you mentioned is anybody's guess.

Try googling "Articles about Elmer Keith" to get started on your search.

^ Sound advice.

Elmer called it like he saw it, and hunted all over the place. Good chance it was him. Saying “anything over 4 or 6” is just for show” sounds like something Elmer would say. The man was not shy.

That's Elmer Keith. His column in Guns & Ammo magazine was called Gun Notes.

There are two volumes of those magazine articles in book form titled Gun Notes 1 and 2, and the article you seek is in there, along with a great many others worth the price and your time. They are published by Safari Press.

I stumbled upon this link to classic Guns Magazine archive. Very interesting articles and reviews. Complete issues are free to read and are from January 1955 through December 1968.

Maybe in here somewhere if article was before 1968?

If not, you may just enjoy reading the old gun magazines as much as I do.

Elmer wrote for, Guns before he went to G&A.

His books like, Sixguns and, Shotguns are must-haves for the informed gun enthusiast.

I didn't know he placed that limitation on barrel length. He also wrote that even 7.5 inch barrels are okay, "for the hills."

He was the foremost force in getting both .41 and .44 Magnums made. And I think he was very active in getting the .338 Winchester and .340 Weatherby Magnum rifle cartridges.
