Default For Sale at today's gun show!

Early this morning, I saw this "Stainless" Model 19 for sale under glass. As I bent down for a closer look, I began to smile when I saw the "Rare!!!!!!!" comment on the sale tag, and then when I saw the asking price, I smiled even more. I didn't have the cash on hand to buy it, so I just snapped a photo and walked away still smiling. Did not consider even asking for the glass case to be opened.

Do you guys and gals think that I should return to the show tomorrow and see if it is still for sale? Take a look!

You should have grabbed it while you could. Pretty sure it will be gone tomorrow. Surprising how many folks are convinced hard chrome refinish is stainless; or maybe it was nickel. Probably hoping he'd get some West Texas fracking money.

You can go back to the show in 20 years and It'll still be available. Start putting away your nickles & dimes.

Please tell me which show. I've got a $5,000 bill burning a hole in my pocket and will even let the seller keep the change.

Looks to me the one for sale under it has a chopped barrel with no front sight!?!? That guy has some dandys for sale . Make sure to remember who he is so you know not to buy anything else from him in the future. Dishonest?

Hard to say, daddio202. I've seen that vendor there before and the Golden Spur folks who put on the show are not likely to tolerate him if he's found to be dishonest. Of course, gun shows are a buyer beware kind of atmosphere. The vendor may just be ignorant or maybe just really optomistic, which so many are these days who sell guns in all kinds of places! He had a nickel 6" m-27 out on the table marked $1495.

Jeppo, the gun show is in Lubbock, TX put on by the Golden Spur folks. They have three or four shows a year in Lubbock in the Civic Center. Show today was a little thinner than the usual, probably due to the just previous holiday. I will say that there were a lot of older S&W revolvers on display today. Most of them were pretty optomistic on prices asked, especially for the condition of a lot of them. But then prices on many were on the high end of what we have come to expect lately. Saw a couple of M-66 2.5" barrels for $850 and $950. Saw a pretty nice M-10-5 2" snub for $795 and one not so nice for $595. Saw an M-19 2.5" in very good condition for $795. And I watched a guy buy a good condition M-27 5" with a junky looking aftermarket set of oversized grips for $775.

A stainless steel Model 19-3? If it really is, it truly is a rare thing. $5000 worth of rare? I dunno about that, just like I dunno if it is really stainless or if it is actually hard-chromed carbon steel.

I don't even like the way the dealer applied that plastic zip tie.

Using a magnifying glass and looking at the grips, they do not look that good. If it truly is such a rare piece I would have imagined it would have been a 3 T model. If I were a dealer, and i wanted to market that piece for that money, I would have it in the case with a factory letter. IMO, I would stay away from it. 5K will buy a lot of nice pieces

This thread reeks with cynicism.

Have none of you a tiny bit of charity
in your hearts for the dealer?

If you can't, the dealer can still rest
easy at nights because his mamma
loves him.

Not even an investment. Run forest run away.

I’d rather buy a Python and a m28/m27 at that price. The RedHawks in 357 & 41 mag run $1,200 each. These are rare.

Yeah he definitely can keep that one.
I'd say until the cows come home but might not take long in Texas.

How much was the cut barrel one?

Default 619???

From the little I think I know, wouldn't ANYTHING stainless start with a 6 in the model #? If it sounds too good to be true, something smells fishy! YES I'm cynical by experience, I used to be optimistic by nature.

Forget Bigfoot, here we have photo evidence of the urban legend "Unicorn Model 66" that got by quality control and left the factory incorrectly stamped as a Model 19...lol.

I know “let the buyer beware” comes into play here, but the seller offering this revolver as a stainless model 19-3 borders on attempted theft by deception.
I would hope that someone would bring this to the attention of the group running the show, and that they take appropriate action.

To my knowledge stainless 19-3s are very rare - this is the first one I’ve ever seen. Now if it were a 2.5 incher...

I doubt I have to make this clear, but just in case any of you might have thought I believed for a small part of one second that this was a SS M-19, let me disabuse you of that notion. If it is ever proven that there was even one M-19 made from SS, I will be the most surprised among us! I am old enough that I never say,"NEVER!", but I'm guessing there will be a freezing temperature here in July in West Texas long before I find out that there is or was any such thing!

On the other hand, if the price had been indeed $49.9500, I would have at least asked to see and handle that very rare specimen, and if it actually functioned correctly, it would likely now be among my accumulation. On the other hand, I have filed away my digital file containing picture of this "Rare!!!!!!!" specimen in the event that I can say I actually saw it! Not in my remaining lifetime, I don't think!!

PS: You know, Paul, I didn't look much beyond that "Stainless" M-19 in the case or on the table. I was even afraid I'd get caught taking the picture and have to refrain from saying what was on my mind if I was honest to that dealer! I didn't wish to be involved in any "discussion" about the authenticity of that firearm, nor did I wish to offend him by asking if his marked price was $49.95!

I believe we have discussed a Model 19-3 in stainless previously on the Forum. We agreed it was either a mismarked Model 66 or a 19-3 with an after market hard chrome finish.

That "Rare!!!!" 19-3 could make for an interesting display at next year's SWCA show in Dallas. Just sayin'.

I don't think the barrel is cut, I think it's a shadow or artifact of the picture. If you look close you can see the red ramp front sight at the very edge of the picture.
It also looks like part of the barrel on the 19-3 is darker but I think it's just the picture.

That’s either a shadow, or where the stainless steel wore through

I assume you are being sarcastic as the black/blue appears to be the shadow of the case holding the firearms.

At least in this case, bubba did not chrome plate the hammer and trigger.

Sad thing is that some poor schlep is gonna see that and believe the story behind it and offer the guy $3000 and think he got a screaming deal. Every time an unscrupulous seller does something like that the whole hobby gets a bad name. And if he honestly believes what he put on the gun, he's too stupid to be in the business. I'm sorry but if I saw that, I'd call him on it in a loud voice and hope there are a lot of people around to listen. I believe in free market and all that, but outright fraud I'm gonna call!!

the gun with the cut off barrel is under the 19 in the display case. It is a blued gun. No price is displayed but you can clearly see the Smith and Wesson roll mark begins at the end of the barrel. It would be perfectly centered if it was correct. Maybe just the angle but the reason for my first post on this subject was the fact that it has no front sight. Strange????
