Model 29 eye candy
I cleaned and waxed this beauty yesterday for my best friend. He has owned it 40+ years, and had never took it apart and cleaned it. It is a Model 29-2, 8 3/8" barrel. Great action and shoots where you point it.
It has some road wear, he has the presentation box and accessories. Serial number check shows it shipped 1977/1978.
It looks like there is gold colored "dust" in the logo and the S&W name. I couldn't find any reference to any of the 29-2's shipping with that.

Thanks for the pics...I have a 29-2 61/2" of the same era. I came here to find out what grips came on mine from the factory, and this answered my question! Now, if I could only find a pair of "woodies" I could afford...

The gold was applied by a previous owner or the gun dealer. That was a fairly popular practice.

Bonanza makes gold filling kits still . They also made silver kits. Popular back in the 70-80’s. My 29-2 still has silver filling in the barrel and frame logo stamping. I like it.

Must have felt great cracking open a 40 year old gun. like opening a dusty chest in an attic.
And yes, those gold inlays will always exist as long as engraving exists.
And is it me or every Colt Gold Cup needs the engraved trophy inlaid in gold or the pistol just doesnt look finished.

The factory does not have the selection they used to. Place an ad in the " Want to Buy" section ( WTB ) on this forum for what you want. My guess is 100 to 150 for factory targets for your gun. You did not say what is currently on it

Leon, that's one beautiful revolver. I really like those 8-3/8" barrels but only have one, a 17-4. My 29-2 is a 1971 model (6-1/2") that had those ugly rubber grips when I purchased it from an individual. It now has a pair of English Walnut Culina target grips which make a real difference.

Very nice!
As far as affordable stocks, for the one gentleman, until you save up, those $59.99 target grips on eBay fill the void pretty well. I bought two sets, they are made in Ohio and a nice fellow, retired vet, sells them.
I put two thin coats of TruOil on mine and they look nice. In fact, one of the revolvers in my avatar, the top one (a 629) has them on in that photo.
