That is a beautiful piece of art, Richard. Artwork that has practical uses too. As always, I love your postings man. You have one fine collection of "scratched up" guns.

Western Theme
I absolutely, love the western theme, and I think he has done marvelous artwork on your 27. I would love to see a cutting horse theme with western style engraving. Oh, just dreaming out loud. A little out of my budget, lol!

It's funny. If someone asked me if I like engraved guns, I'd say no.
But every time I see one on here, I think, Man, that is nice!
Goes for this one too.

That's worth every penny----and a little bit extra---and little bit more after that.
I wonder what Mr. Quigley's favorite looks like----probably knock your socks off!!

Legal? ... Yes
Fun? ... Heck Yes
Prudent? ... Probably Not
Economically Viable? ... Very Debatable...

I've thought about this question quite a bit and and the longer I thought on it, the more I decided that I could never be an artisan. I would become too attached to everything I turned out and would not want to send any work back to the owner... Some things are just too nice to let go. Hey.... maybe that is why it takes so long to get these beauties back from the engraver - they go through ASA ( Anticipatory Separation Anxiety) and the 12-Step Therapy process takes 5-6 months just to turn their works of art loose...
Seriously though, in getting to know Phil over the past 4-5 years, I believe that he does have some favorites (whether it is the 1st of something, a unique style, a particularly fine execution, a memorable client, etc...) and when he speaks of them or displays photos, it is with extreme fondness -- his mustache curls up at the corners and eyes light up with a smile and a modest glint that says - "yeah - I nailed that one".

.. Now that would be the perfect accessory to go with one of those huge belt buckles, one of your tooled holsters on a tooled belt and pair of Wranglers...

I tried a set of ivory target stocks on it and they were just too overpowering. For whatever reason, with the full coverage engraving, I really liked the warmth and color of the plain GA stocks, so as not to detract from the engraving. The "designer" in me thinks that perhaps the addition of a flush large ebony diamond insert in the stocks would be the final touch - a splash of black to firmly tie the stocks to the blued gun...

Fabulous...except for the bronc rider. Seems out of place and not as well executed as the rest of the design. But that's just me.
WAY above my pay grade.

I personally think the bronc rider is more reminiscent of
those depicted in Remington's western art, of long ago.

... I slapped a set of Keith Brown Kersarge's on it and liked the way it looked...just a little more "cowboy". A couple of quick iPhone photos (my kids have my good camera... and I was too lazy to get out the light box ):

Or dark rosewood with an ivory diamond?

Just beautiful, RK!
BTW, I was wondering if you had ever thought of getting a custom set of old school pre WWII type grips that wouldn't cover up any of that beautiful engraving? I bet they would look great on that gun too. Get someone to make a nice set, maybe with your ebony inlay too.
