Default Need date on 'S' prefix model 57

I'm looking at possibly purchasing a model 57 6" blue, with a serial number of S319039.

Can anyone here distinguish whether it is a 68 (C&R) or 69? Thanks for any help.

Also it comes with smooth presentation targets, could this be the correct grip for that model/period?

Most likely shipped around May of 1970. May have come from factory with smooth presentations, but not likely. Only the original factory box with end label or LOA would tell you for sure.

Most of the Model 29s and Model 57s in that serial number range (I am familiar with) shipped in July-September 1969, but I have in my files a Model 57 with serial number S319181 that shipped in July 1970. In either case, it will be at least a year before S319039 is possibly a C&R revolver.
