Early Birthday Present Mod. 57
There is one sure way to make certain that I will be happy with my birthday present and that is to buy it myself.
The gift, from me to me, is a Model 57, no dash with a 6 inch barrel. It as listed as being in excellent condition and the seller was very conservative in his description, IMO.
A trip to the range is scheduled for this weekend.

Beautiful gun. Now remove the K Frame stocks and replace them with some nice N Frame targets.

What he says.
Very nice model 57. I am assuming it is a 57-1?

Of the ones I’ve let get away, a 6” M 57 no dash is probably the one I miss the most.

After handling a 8-3/8" gun, I am angling toward a 6" myself. It was just too muzzle heavy. I like the long tube K frames though.

Very nice gun! A 6” 57 is hard to beat.
The grips are beautiful, but he is correct, those are K frame grips.
N frame grips will probably prove to be more comfortable as they widen the contact area in your palm and spread the recoil out a little wider.
My best birthday presents I bought myself, too!

Nice gun!!!! One of them is on my short list. I just bought too many 10's 28's 19's, 15, 60, 629, 17, and God only knows what else. Too many nice people wanting to sell nice guns. Even bought a rifle here

I made it to the range today and it was 97 degrees in the shade but, I had the range to myself. The "new" Mod. 57, with correct N frame grips, the 29-4 with a 3" barrel and the tack driving 629-5 Classic DX made it a .40 + caliber day.
The Mod. 57 did not disappoint. The targets shown are head shots at 10 yards and body shots at 25 yards. All shots fired offhand, using two hands. 9.1 grains of Unique in new Winchester brass with 210 grain Hornday XTP bullets.
I forgot about the heat but, was glad to have a towel to wipe down between strings. There is, as you all know, something comforting and satisfying about the "Swiss like clockwork " action of a pre lock S&W.
It was an early birthday party and I got my wish, the Mod. 57!

Very nice looking 57 there and it is accurate too! I been on auction sites being outbid like crazy. Something about a nice 57 that once people decide they want one, it is very difficult to outbid em on it. Enjoy
