29-2 Value, LNIB
I have a 29-2 in nickel, 4 inch barrel that’s like new, all original packaging and has never been shot (outside of S&W). Only real flaw I can see is some discoloration of the S&W emblem on the grips...haven’t tried to clean those up yet. My father purchased in 1980, remained in his safe until he passed & now it’s in mine. It’s simply incredible to look at. I can’t find one in this condition anywhere. What would you value this weapon at? Valuation seems to be all over the place because other 29-2s aren’t a total package like mine or unfired since delivery. Serial is N705xxx which should be 1980 based on my research here. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Wow...
There are a lot of 29-2s out there, but you don’t see the whole package, as new as new can get, very often. The nickel makes it even sweeter.
I’d say a minimum of $1500... and it could easily go several hundred above that. You’re in the safe queen high end collector universe with that beauty.
I was happy to see you wearing gloves in the photos. Take good care of that baby!
Best wishes,
Roger aka Mr. Wonderful

To me, it’s a $1500 gun, max - but I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if you said you got close to double that on an internet auction.

Thank you, gentlemen. I greatly appreciate your inputs. I don’t think I’ll be putting this one on the auction block any time soon. Best price I’ve seen one close for in similar condition was $2375, but that was about a year ago on Gunbroker in the DFW area.

You're correct that valuation estimates for model 29-2 revolvers are all over the map.
29-2 revolvers aren't rare. But high-condition NIB (or LNIB) examples will generate interest.
Examples with the 4" barrel and the 6.5" barrel are the most desired, from what I've seen. Those are the models I own.
The value estimates already provided seem reasonable to me. $1,500 would seem like a good value for the buyer in my opinion. However, it is hard to know what it might actually sell for on an auction site. Given the apparent condition of your gun and the complete set of boxes, tools, PW...who knows. Might sell for quite a bit more. How much more is anyone's guess. These type of items are worth exactly what someone is willing to pay on a given day.
There's no doubt you have a special gun, doubly so considering it was your dad's. Hopefully you'll hang onto it and pass it down to your son one day.
Thanks for sharing the photos.
