Default Newest carry gun needs dates please

S&W Model 65-1

.357 Magnum

Pinned & recessed

4 inch barrel

Square butt

Fixed sights

Narrow checkered hammer

Narrow grooved trigger

Serial # 1D17417

Came with weirdly whittled N-frame target grips made to fit with Plastic Wood (the panels were cut down to the depth of the grooves as was the wood in front and behind, leaving the full front to back measurement and length)

It’s wearing Pachmayr Grippers now.

MPD 55 is on the left side of the frame above the front part of the trigger guard.

No box, no paperwork

I appreciate any information available.

Original K Frame Grips are still available from ebay, G-broker, and occasionally even here in this Forum in the accessories for sale if you are interested.

I own a 3" RB M65 and use it as my Woods carry gun loaded up with Buffalo Bore 180 grain SWC hard cast .357 Magnums. One of the very best Smith ever produced in my opinion. Just don't over stress the K frame too much with the Magnums - shoot mostly .38 Specials with an ocassional cylinder of Magnums and you will be OK.

From the MPD stamping it's obviously an ex Police Dept. issued gun. BTW the instruction sheets, boxes and screwdriver/cleaning kit combo are also sometimes for sale on fleabay if interested.

I may go looking for original grips and/or box, but I’m more of an accumulator than a collector. Newest carry gun needs dates please I use the Speer 135 grain “Short Barrel” .357 Magnum as my “working” load in my K-frame magnums. Practice ammo is generally standard pressure .38 Spl. No sense in abusing them.
