Possible for a pinned barrel to rotate from firing?
Hello, all. I was hoping to ask you a question. I've had my 19-3 for a month and half now, and I've taken it to the range thrice. I've shot ~125 rounds of 158gr .357mag, and around ~60 .38spl. I was cleaning my revolver today after the last range visit, and I noticed that grooves on the top of the barrel and frame were not in line with each other. They were just a little bit off. It seems like I remember checking that when I bought the gun and they were straight. Unfortunately, I didn't have a picture of the grooves from before, so I'm not sure.
Is it possible for the barrel, especially a pinned barrel, to rotate ever so slightly from firing or am I just mis-remembering the alignment of my barrel?
Thanks, in advance.

If the barrel was torqued tight (normal) to start, firing should not make it unscrew. And with a right hand twist barrel, firing would actually make it rotate more clockwise, not in the direction pictured (I think - college physics was a long time ago ).

I have owned S&W revolvers for 50 years. Of the numerous ones I have owned that had the grooves, every last one of them was slightly out-of-line -- sometimes by only half a line-width, but out of line. Based on that, I will say you have no problem whatsoever.

Well, the lines on my 69 didn't exactly index, until I blew it up and then it was perfect. True.
I would guess nothing changed on your gun.

Probably never was exactly perfect. But, in answer to your question, yes,the barrel can still turn a couple degrees with the pin.

I have a pinned pre-war I-frame (a Reg Police Target 32 if you care) and although it seems to be unmolested, the barrel will turn a couple of degrees back and forth with the pin in place. Go figure!

I was able to get a pinned 66 barrel to rotate slightly many years ago.
I'm not inclined to think it occurs from firing, most likely you're just mis-remembering.
Have you noticed a shift in windage on paper?

The pin NOT being a true INTERFERENCE fit will allow some movement of the barrel.

As demonstrated in your picture the barrel is slightly over torqued.. 'aint gonna happen firing the gun..
Other than that it is within' spec. Shoot and forget it.

I agree with bigggbbruce the barrel is turned in the direction to tighten. It doesn't seem possible. If it has turned I think it would get looser.
