Just snagged this lovely Mod. 19-3 last night off GB. Or, at least I think it's lovely. Did I pay way too much? Of course! However the pictures reveal a beautiful revolver. Serial Number: 4K721XX. I've got it pegged at around 1967. What say some of you guys?

Comes complete with a set of Jordan Trooper grips which, by looking at the website, sell for $122.50. Truthfully, I don't think they're very becoming. Again, what say you? I'm thinking about putting original stocks on it.

Another model Smith that I've wanted for quite some time. More pictures to follow and a range report as soon as I get the time. Life is good, as Hickok45 says.

Really nice gun, but the grips don't do anything for it. I really like the gun.

I'm with you. When I first looked at it I said, wow what a pristine mod19 but the grips aren't hitting on anything. Trust me, they'll go back stock as soon as I can get an order off. Think I can get some original stocks off ebay.

Never second guess whether you payed to much if you are happy with the firearm. Go back and read your first sentence, that pretty much tells the story.

That is a sweet looking 19-3. However I think the Jordan Troopers have got to go. If you compare the pics below of my 14-3 and my 19-3 then compare with the Colts I have sold off you can quickly see the Jordans have almost the same backstrap curvature and shape of Colt stocks which was the main reason I got out of Colts and went to Smith's.

The Colt stocks just never quite fit my hand and my particular hold so I am always better off with Smith, Targets for sure, even Magnas, cept some super nice wood smooth Presentation Cullinas!

PM me if interested in a set of K Frame Targets with football relief. They are not new, but finish OK, no cracks or chips. Hate to see that nice 19-3 wearing those ersatz "Colts" that it appears to have come with.

Nice gun but get rid of those stocks!

I blew up my first one in 1997. Long story. So another was a grail gun for me for years. I acquired this one a couple of years ago from someone on this Forum.

As you can see, in BOTH pictures normal S&W stocks look better! I took off the original stocks to use Magnas and a Tyler-T. Or maybe that's a Pachmayr T. Anyway, that's the way I like them set up.

Nice piece! Jordans, while I like them, are usually too large for my hands.

You have to remember that Bill Jordan had hands the size of fruit baskets which accounts for the size and shape of Jordan grips. Since I don't have hands the size of fruit baskets, I'd get rid of them, too. Nice Model 19!

Yep, there it is as plain as day in scsw 4th---4K7 1974. Don't know how I made that mistake. Anyway, I'm in agreement with everyone, the Jordans have got to go. Haven't made up my mind whether I'll keep them or not but they just take away rather than add to the beauty of the gun.Thanks for you guys input.

Wow, not much love for the Jordan Troopers. While I have tried them on an N Frame and find them too large due to the covered backstrap, they feel pretty good to me on my Model 19. I have pretty large hands.
dwpmusic: You might want to try them before you sell them. If you don't like them there is a ready market on ebay. Here is mine.

Very nice find! I had a set of Jordan Troopers in N frame. The wood was super nice. My hands are not big enough for the closed back stocks. They were not good for me with a 44 Magnum. I sold them to a Forum member. Bob

Most probably, I'll do the same thing. I've never put my hands around them. I don't have very big hands so I don't expect them to be comfortable. Mainly, I just don't like the looks of them.

Well, I'm just now getting this 19-3 in my hands 11 days later and I can't believe how beautiful it is and how much more beautiful it going to be once I get the Jordans off of it. Nothing against Mr. Jordan but he really must have had some BIG hands. I doubt this revolver has hardly been shot. It is pristine.

Unlike Bill Jordan, I have average to small hands, and I have Herrett Trooper stocks on some of my K frames. I agree the factory target stocks are aesthetically more pleasing--but their trumpet-like flare at the butt encourages the weapon to slide down in the hand during recoil. Depending on the length of ones fingers, the wood covering the backstrap on the Trooper stock may facilitate a more natural placement of ones finger on the trigger.

If you plan to primarily look at the piece, by all means get some original target stocks. If you plan to shoot the piece, you might want to hang on to the Trooper stocks and try them.

I surely don't have a problem at least trying them out but they're not very easy on the eyes.

Jordan stocks were always about guys with "really big hands" (like Jordan) getting a good shooting grip on a " .357 Combat Magnum" K-frame.

My feelings on any style grip is ... if they work for you great; if not move them along..............until you find what works for you.

In this case Jordan had carried a .N-frame .357..... but worked with S&W to build a "lighter" .357 police duty gun which would be carried a lot and shot a little.... but he had huge hands and the K-frame grips were too small... hence his "oversize" grips with covered backstrap.

My go to grips are Spegel Boot and Extended Boot grips.....for my medium sized hands. Craig even made me a couple of sets of very plain grips out of Black walnut for my 'working guns";
